Do ratchets get smoother over time?

Just got a pair of K2 formulas (had K2 Company before) and the ratchets are not as smooth as I remember my companies being. Does anybody notice that ratchets need to be broken in sometimes?

If anything, it seems like they get catchier, but not sure if that's more on the ratchet itself or the ladders getting worn.

Well, now that I think about it I replaced my Flux toe caps at the beginning of this season. The ratchets were getting pretty catchy. The new ones aren't at all and I didn't replace my ladders. Take that for what it's worth, not sure if it's worth anything to be honest.

haha, any insight is better than none at all. the whole binding seemed very stiff out of the box, even just popping the ladders out of the sockets to adjust their position was hard to do. it is a 2013 model, which means it has probably been sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

to release the ankle strap i have to make believe i am going to crank it down and then pull on the release mechanism. maybe i have them too tight?

That'll happen if you have them cranked too tight. Varies by binding.

One thing I didn't mention is that I also ordered the Burton Cartels and the releasing the ratchets is super smooth compared to the Formulas. My only concern is that I'm rocking a 10.5 boot and the toe ramp of the Formula is a bit longer than the Cartel so it supports my boot better. The toes of my boot stick out about 1 inch past the toe ramp on both...I'm probably just being paranoid.

I'll throw some up when I get home later today. I really think they are fine, just looking for some feedback if I need to adjust anything.
