Riding with no high backs?
I've been hearing more and more people riding with no high backs. I've seen pictures of pros doing it (Helgason brothers).
I've never tried this. Curious if anyone on here has and is it a positive or negative change from your experience?

The link is a quick right up from transworld about the subject.

The Theory of No Highbacks by Mike Ranquet - Transworld Snowboarding

It's not something that you would try like reverse camber or canting to "improve your game". It's an experiential thing. If you are a person that already rides with your feet a lot and likes to slash your board around like a skate deck, no high backs can increase that feeling and experience. Some people ride more like that in powder and that's another place where the no high back can intensify that feeling. But if you don't ride that way and you use your high backs, then don't take them off. Or at least don't sweat that you're missing out on something, just check it out some time.

Thanks for your input!
I'm probably not missing out on much then.

Well don't forget about having fun. It's easy to get caught up in gear but snowboarding should be about letting it rip, having fun, and trying new things.

I agree. There is so much gear and the whole concept of snowboarding is progressing so fast it's hoed not to get caught up in the newest gear and who's doing what.
For me it just going for a rip with the homies.
Good times and hopefully as little slamming as possible.

It's not fun outside of powder, IMO. There is a lot more lag going from edge to edge, and if your not careful can result in some painful edge snags. Can't comment on riding that way in the park, and would assume that lack of control wouldn't be beneficial, but my preference is pow. I also use the NOW heel cups instead of the highbacks and figure that bindings completely free of highbacks would be even more technical than the low back cups I use.
