390s vs. Targas

So at the begging of this season I picked up a Banana and mounted it with 390s. My riding has advanced quite a bit over the past 2 months. I realized that I wanted something more all mountain that I could really bomb a hill and hit kickers at high speeds with. I picked up a Bataleon The Jam. Triple8sol had recommended a Jam to me before, and maybe I should have listened the first time around.

As it's more of a all mountain to freestyle board, I figured some Targas would serve it well. I really do love my 390s. I'm hoping the Targas compliment The Jam as a stiffer version of the same binding, able to handle the speed and variable terrain a bit better. Before they become used, I was hoping for some confirmation that this is the case. Also, are the C-inserts worth switching out? The ankle strap is obviously much more flexible with no insert at all, but the 2 different C-inserts don't really feel that different in rigidity.

Board and binding porn attached below!

I rode my Jam with Targas the first 10 times out this season. Perfect combo that served me well locally as well as in Tahoe and at Bear.

Is that a 161w that you got from nyinfamous?

Ok so what is the deal with the inserts? I got Targas for my Lib Tech T.Rice C2 BTX and love them but did wonder about the inserts. The instructions didn't give a hell of a lot of detail on them. Is one set supposed to be stiffer than the other?

Edit: Hmm look at that...you go to the mfg web site and read about the tech and it tells you what's what. So yea one set is supposed to be stiffer...I may have to try it...but honestly I love the feel of my Targas right out of the box.

nice setup, tylernim. Maybe just an optical illusion, but it looks like you're riding all the way in the backseat...expecting some epic pow?

I have Targas mounted on my Undisputed and 390s on my Riot. Among other things, Targas have an actual dampening system under the heel...much appreciated after a few jarring rock drops.

I was going to ask the same thing. Optical illusion :dunno:

I've tried both inserts in mine, and can't tell a lot of difference. I stuck with the stiff inserts for whatever reason. The prior years' models seemed to have a more noticeable difference between the 2 inserts.

It is indeed. Is that ok?! Are you going to tell me he's a scammer now, and the board's integrity is compromised?!

As for the seemingly massive setback, it's just the difference in angles of the board against the wall and the camera. That and the standard set back of a little more than half an inch on the board. I've got my bindings mounted with the wholes matched up etc...

Nice set up. I love my Targas.

I don't wanna start a new thread... So which is the better binding for a pure park setup? I'm looking for a new set up bindings for my 157 Burton Twin and I'm deciding between these two. I don't care much for an all terrain setup, strictly park with a lot of flex. Thanks!
