I got a pair of union forces from sierra yesterday and threw them on my old board to see how they felt. What's wierd is that the inserts on my board go around 5/8 inch deep into the board. However the screws from the new forces probably have at most 1/4 clearance beyond the bottom of the bindings. Is this normal? It seems to me like the screws aren't going deep enough.

They're going deep enough.

They don't have to hit the bottom, and it's better that they don't. Prevents over tightening and punching the screw thru the base of your board.
