Rome 390s vs Ride Contrabands

I currently rock a 2010 Ride Society. Since I have been trying to decide on these bindings forever, I decided to take both home, then return one. The 390s are just fantastic. The ankle strap is amazing, everything looks gorgeous. The Contrabands on the other hands, they are a lighter weight, and look better with my set up. The wedgies that come with the contrabands really do seem to ease pressure off your knees. I love that. Everyone at my local board shop has told me to go for the contrabands, whereas many others have told me to get the 390s. I have a 32 Lashed boot. This seems to be pretty wide on the 390s, and tall on the contrabands. Would the boots with one of these bindings not be a good choice? My board has gray triangles across the whole thing. The black contrabands would look much nicer, especially with my black 32 boot. 390s are white and black, and don't look too too nice on my board, but are an incredible binding. What would you guys do?

I can't get the 390 boss, due to the fact no place near me has them.

Well first thing I would do is throw out any inkling of thinking derived from fashion over functionality. Than I would choose the binding I like best for my type of riding, I myself ride the contrabands because I love the canted beds. Everything else on the binding is on par with what I usually want in a binding, so the addition of the canted bed did it for me. Ultimately it'll come down to what you want, but focus on function more than fashion.

Very good point, but I figured since both bindings are good and I can't try them on, choose one that looks best. The lighting wasn't good in the photo, but to get an idea, here are both.

i have the contrabands as well, and really like them, but for me i prefer the Union Force's. It really all depends on, as method says, what you like. You would rather have a pair of bindings that work than ones that look sick but are uncomfortable or whatever.

The 390s aren't uncomfortable. They are both really nice bindings. I'll have to take the contrabands to my local shop for them to adjust properly. To cut short, what are the major differences between the two. For example, is one much better for park, another really good for freeriding, etc. Does the V-Strap really make a difference, or is it there to just shave off some weight

I don't think Ride claims that Contrabands give better performance than similar two-strappers -- just comparable performance. The purposes of the V-strap are to speed entry (only one ratchet to crank), improve comfort (less pressure on toes), and reduce weight.

You shouldn't need to have a shop adjust the bindings. There's a video on Ride's website that explains how to set them up. All you need is a screwdriver. It doesn't look all that different from setting up any pair of bindings. The straps are in a different configuration, but the principle is the same.

i use the 390s for my mountain board, contrabands for my dedicated jib board...

390= extremely comfortable even for long runs, very responsive also

contrabands= very light with easy on/easy off application

I saw the video, but my boots toe is pretty tall, making it tough to center the strap. With my old pair of boots (Ride Haze), the 390s feel much much better. With my new ones, they are pretty darn big, and are not as padded, which makes it tough to notice much of a difference. Contrabands have more space for my foot, therefore making the binding seem to fit slightly better. Is there any way I can make the 390s slightly wider/ slightly more room width wise?
