Critique my setup

Im pretty new to snowboarding but since I know it's not going to be a fleeting hobby for me I bought my own setup. I tried it the first time out in Vail but since I live in NY Ive only been to Hunter/Windham since and that will be where i go mostly in the future.

Im also pretty frugal so instead of continuously renting I went ahead and got an Omatic Extr Txtr based on what I read from Burton Avenger and a pair of Nike Kaiju 9.5. I got the boots online and they're a little tight but im hoping to pack them out a bit just by walking around the apt.

As far as my riding style what I hope will be my riding style will be hitting groomers and getting decent at freestyle enough to hit the park. Id like to hit rails, jumps, do presses and butters.
Im 31 so I want to have fun on my board but hitting 40 footers will probably result in cutting my life/hobby short.

Questions:
What kind of bindings should I get? Reading this forum I was going to go with Rome 390 Boss, but Im wondering if that will be too much flex? Targas? Despite the small mountains here im not really interested in step-ins.

Also does anyone know if a Kaiju 9.5 would be a l/xl or a s/m? Are those boots considered bulky or low profile?

Thanks for the help.

I would go with the large binding, and if you don't want a true step in but something a little faster look at the Ride Contrabands or K2 Auto series. As for flex a lot of that will depend on your weight. If you're a toothpick even a soft binding will feel stiffer to you.

Ok. I left that out. The Omatic is 158. I am 5'11" and weigh 185.

I think the Bosses would be more than fine. You will want that flex when you are in the park and they aren't too soft to the point where you can't rip groomers and that if you just aren't feeling the park that day.

I have a pair of the 390 bosses. For the most part they do exactly what I need them to do. But heres my Pro/Con list

Pros:
-mostly reliable
-low profile/compact
-will be responsive if demanded to be responsive.
-Very Comfortable
-strong

Cons:
-kinda awkward
-ratchets can slightly loosen (only if you take a really hard stomp, such as coming up short on that 40'er you don't even wana try)

I personally dont really like them because I'm a nit picky bitch. I think the design is a little clumsy (especially the high back). I'm an ambitious park rider though and understand that these are very highly acclaimed park bindings but truth be told that they are not exactly for me. My top picks at what I should have bought instead were either K2 formulas or Burton Corbrasharks.

I just bought Rome 390 bindings for my first board set up to go with an Arbor Element board, and the ratchets loosening up worries me. Is the issue only on landing while doing park, or does flexing the binding cause the ratchets to loosen?

well if 2012, Raiden Phantoms, Flow NXT-AT's, Rome 390's, Flux TT30's.

Same stuff for 2011 minus the Raidens. I don't actually know how they are for this year.

Snowboarding Is...

Flexing the binding is not enough force to loosen them. So far the ankle strap has only loosen'd maybe 6 clicks (little over half an inch) and it just felt very soft. Nothing to really worry about, but I just kinda gave me paranoia over the fact if I knuckle a jump pretty hard.

It has to do when landing really, really hard off a jump. So in your case, there is nothing to worry about. If you have any more questions about them then feel free to spill them out. I'll try to answer what I can, but for the most part, bindings are bindings.
