New Bindings: Uprise v Phantom v Targa?

Hi Guys,

Im looking to get a new set of bindings for this season, and I've narrowed it down to one of two from three brands: K2, Raiden, and Rome.

I'll be using them for 95% All Mountain. I ride a 168cm Bataleon Undisputed, and wear Size 10.5 Salomon Pledges.

I want a set of bindings that are geared toward speed, responsiveness and comfort/shock absorption, but probably favouring comfort/shock absorption slightly.

Of the K2s, I looked at the Uprises, Company and Ever. The Company seem to be more expensive than the Uprises, but without Auto and speed ratchets. The Ever's seem to be lacking a bit of padding around the highbacks, so probably skewed towards the performance. So I think the Uprises are the best choice.

Of the Raidens, I looked at the Phantoms and the Machines. Both seem very similar, but the Machines seem to be stiffer and more responsive, but Phantoms seem like they would be sightly more comfortable and shock absorbing.

Of the Romes, I got the impression from some reviews that the Rome Targa's are stiffer than the 390 Bosses which is why im leaning towards them.

Ive never ridden any of the above, my above comments are just from reading reviews and descriptions. So Im hoping for some feedback from those who have ridden one or more of the above as to which one will fit my intended use the best.

For instance:-
1. Which of the 3 is the most responsive?
2. which has the best bump absorbtion? and
3. Which is the best mix of the two?

I know its all subjective, but Im just looking for peoples impressions.

Thanks,

I've never ridden the Raidens

The Rome's are nice

But I went with the Uprise

Basically the Uprise has just about every cool feature from every other binding on the market, all rolled into one.

Super soft ankle strap like the rome 390, the ankle strap holds to the side like rome bindings, toe ramp, blablabla and this weird suction cup thing that actually holds your boot into the binding.... I actually don't like it and I'm about to make it not work anymore.

The auto strap system takes some getting used to but once you got it, it's pretty convenient.

The uprise is a mid flex type of binding that you can do anything with... Pretty close to what my Union Force flex was, maybe a tiny bit softer.

Really the Targa and Uprise are packed full of really sweet options, and you can't go wrong with either. I can't speak on a Raiden except they don't have much of a name

Uprises are slightly softer Formulas with Auto.

I would go with Company's, Phantoms, then Targa's.

Hmm, okay. What is the difference between the Companys and the Uprises? Are they just stiffer? Cos it seems like they are $50 more, but with less features except some thin core ankle strap or something.

I just got the Phantoms a few weeks ago. They're really tech compared to my old missions. From what I can tell, they seem like they're going to be super damp and on the stiffer side of the spectrum. Perfect for freestyle all mountain. If you go with these, you probably won't be dissapointed. I can't wait to shred with them once we finally get some snow around here.

What do you mean by "super damp"? As in shock absorption?

Yea. The footbed has airbags and a rubber insert on the heel edge that dampen. There's some videos on YouTube that show them better than the typical manufacture photos you find on the web.

Awesome, thats exactly what I want. Want them stiff for good performance when going fast, but with enough dampening to absorb bumps etc.

So how soon are you going to be able to test them out and give us a first hand review? hehe ;)

Not soon enough. Slopes within a 4 hour driving radius are snowless. But if you want any specific pics of the bindings in the meantime, I can accomodate.

Companys are stiffer overall. Stiffer but not heavier means more $$.

Airbags are my personal favorite dampening system in bindings. All the shock absorbtion you need but not so damp you lose feel.

Second to that is harshmellow and if you have bad knees Companys will be better than Phantoms being canted.
