Default Binding Suggestions

I'm in a bind here. (No pun intended....) All the stores within a 70 mile radius of me are COMPLETELY sold out of every binding, making it near impossible for me to check them out and compare them.

I'm in the market for new bindings. I've got a pair of Ride NRC's on my all mountain board. (Love these to death, the company discontinued these because the damn kiddies are all buying "lightweight" bindings now...)After picking up a brand new Bataleon Aerobic last year for $150, I need another set of binders. Preferably something with that is comfortable with soft ankle straps.

Now I know everyone generally screams the same exact product when people are asking for suggestions, but I'm honestly stuck here. Here's a list of what I've looked at so far and my impressions if I have seen them in person. Any help on what I should get would be appreciated.

Rome 390's- Have great looking straps, but honestly look horrid in regards to quality compared to the older models. Companies have to fix what isn't broken and always end up making the product worse. (Or what seems worse, I haven't used the current model though and am open to trying them if people say otherwise about their quality. I've only used the 07/08's)

Union Force-Never seen them in person. Everyone used to be crazy about them on here, but supposedly the 2012 models are lacking in quality?

Burton Cartels-I've used older cartels and had a neutral opinion on them, but the new ones look fairly promising. Seem to be packed with a lot of features/adjustments.

I'm open to any other recommendations. I just really can't decide on what I should be choosing.

Union has cool ankle straps but the toe straps are wierd

I like my '12 cartels soft straps, good adjustments, they just work, i forget that they are there and thats what i want.

Based on your choices thus far I'll assume you're looking for a do everything freestyle binding.

In that case the 390's out of your three, but take a look at Raiden Phantoms. Airbags are fantastic, minidiscs are great for boardflex, straps are solid and comfy, and the highback is nice and flat up top for tweaks and butters.

Malavitas over Cartles. Better highback for the style I'm assuming youre looking for.

Third would be Flow M9's or NXT-AT's. M9s are more parky but very mtn capable.

Preferably something geared slightly more towards freestyle, but still stiff enough to throw down some carves.

Comfort is the #1 priority though. I love the 390 ankle strap, but in the past the toe strap has always given me issues with tearing.

Narrowed it down to the Force, Flux, and Cartel.....

I don't know if Flux really has what you're looking for. Maybe the SF45's or TT30's.

I still say Malavita's over Cartel's. Is the price keeping you off them?

Rome's toe strap is a good one, if you take care and watch you're loading and unloading and don't ride over it they shouldn't be tearing.

EDIT
Just re-read and saw you're on an Aerobic. You won't be getting all that great of mountain performance out of that anyhow, 390's are still good, I guess Forces but there are better options for the money out there, and I think Cartels will be overkill.

So now that you're on that, TT30's will be great as well as DS30's, Raiden Zero's, Flow M9's, or K2 Nationals.

Price is holding me back from the cartels/malavitas. I'm really not looking to spend such a high amount considering this isn't my main board. I can get forces for $150, seems like a good deal that I shouldn't pass up.

If you can get 2012 Union Forces for $150 I would. Just got a pair and I like them. The toe strap is what everyone will complain about but they aren't that bad, they just get a little sticky.

x2 on the new cartels. I have been using the old style since 03. The 2012s are a HUGE improvement. They are very comfortable, light, and perform well.

Just curious, what justifies the price of the malavitas over the cartels? I checked out both today and it seemed as if they were rather similar.

mainly the highback, and the Malavitas come standard with the Asym ankle strap.

The baseframe bends a little differently too, its more of a freestyle oriented binding.

Forces are worth about $150, new, current year...
