female Stance Width for Women

This is a question for our long time female riders.

If you started riding as a young girl, your stance width was probably similar to that of boys of the same age. However, as you got older and your body did that "girl thing", did you make a significant change to your stance width if you "acquired" a wider set of hips as most females do?

Looking for advice as I set up all the boards in our family and our teenage daughter is now not the same "girl" that she was last season.

Haha.. Changes happen. YIPEE!
But really, adjust her stance as she feels the need to. Chances are her legs are also getting longer as well as the other female stuffs.

I started out at a fairly narrow stance, but this was also when I was riding boards much too short for my weight and it was the generic sports shop setting things up for me. It took about a season for me to dial my stance in, but it really hasn't changed by a notch or two in terms of binding angle since, and that has more to do with how much my knees are hurting that day.

I started riding 26 years ago something that barely resembled a snowboard. Back then we modeled our riding style to the only thing we knew- a skateboarding stance. But my daughter who got on board pretty much as soon as she could keep a balance. She went through a really wide stance stage first, then around 10 started gradually narrowing it to about shoulder width, then widened it again around 12-13. I can't say for sure if it was due to developmental changes or the fact that during that time she turned into a total park rat and just preferred a wider stance because it helped her stick her landings. Perhaps both.

Pictures?!? Oh god now let it be forever known I am the forum perv!

In all seriousness, I don't think the actual hip joints are much wider on a man vs a woman. Possibly 1/2" wider all other things being equal.

That said, is she riding the same gear as last year? Has she grown taller at all?

Main thing is with ANY binding adjustments is to take baby steps. Maybe leave the rest of her stance the same but widen it out 1/2" or so. I wouldn't go crazy. Reference stance width seems pretty close on most people/boards I've seen.
