Freeride bindings?

Spring sales are on!

I was planning on upgrading my boots and bindings for next season and just figured I'd ask here. From a freeride perspective, would it be better to get a stiffer binding or stiffer boot for more response?

What bindings would you recommend?

Union force/atlas?
Rome 390/Targas?
Cartels?
Flow NX2-AT?

Not really in a position to demo anything and every binding out there says its "great for park but has the stiffness and response for hard charging"

LOL yeah time to cut through the marketing bullshit. I'd go Targa, Atlas, Cartel and NX2 in that order. Or maybe Targa, Cartel, Atlas, NX2. The Flows are just a really personal thing. Love/Hate, y'know. None of these are purely a freeride/big mountain binding like the Burton Diode or the Ride El Hefe -- they're all pretty versatile. FWIW the Cartels are super solid and can do most anything you want. One case where the marketing isn't total bullshit, I guess. But they are definitely on the stiffer side for "park", more suited for all-mountain riding. Targas are super-adjustable and likewise can work for a variety of riding conditions/styles.

Cartels aren't that all mountain do anything binding they used to be in my opinion. They've landed back into the park domination slot from like 8 years ago. So for freeride I think the highback has too much torsional give. Same goes for both Unions.

I say Targa or NX2's.

I'm right there with Nivek! I actually am coming off of a fractured lower tibia and a severely sprained ankle after trying to go ham on a nice boulder hit. Long story short, Cartels are too flexible and offer no support for that big stuff. I just did my spring purchase and got a 157 Evo with Rome 390 Boss and could not be happier. They offer great support with plenty of mobility/responsiveness for picking crit tree lines, nice cruise speeds and smooth hit landings.

390 Bosses with the Jones Flagship?

Are these bindings stiff enough for a Jones Flagship? Thinking about picking up a Flagship on end of season sale.

I'm thinking I may need to step up to the Targa.

[oops -- i was reading this thread and it prompted my question. Thought I was posting a new post didn't mean to threadjack]

I find the Cartels to be stiff enough for big mountain....if you have a good forward lean to them and fit them right, they are PLENTY stiff for big stuff and quite responsive...im on my 2nd season with a set of 2012s and they are just fine.

I think alot of it depends on your riding style...some guys charge in the backcountry on boards/bindings that are quite soft, others prefer really stiff gear.
