Well, I finally got up the nerve to attempt a kicker in the park on Sunday. In my mind, the warm temperatures had shrunk their size just enough that I was willing to try the smallest one in the park.
It was an impressive failure! I don't remember the flying through the air part, but I do remember landing on the knuckle, catching my heelside edge, and slamming my (helmeted) head into the mountain before sliding 50 or 60 feet on my backside down the landing zone. I did a quick damage assessment as I was sliding upside-down toward the next jump and was surprised to find nothing broken and no excruiating pain.:p Then I realized that I had not slowed down at all and was still heading for the knuckle of the next jump...so I dug in and stopped about 2 feet from the knuckle where 2 guys were sitting (grays on trays like me). One just looks at me and nonchalantly says "you need a little more speed." Continuing to lie there upside-down, I asked his opinion as to how many more crashes like that I could expect before landing a jump, because I didn't think I had many left in me! He was encouraging and convinced me that I just need to approach with more speed than I think I need and it will all work out. I went back to that kicker three more times that day, but didn't have the stones to try again.:dunno:
I'm not giving up though...I know when the moment is right, I will hurl myself into the air once more...just to see what happens....:D
