Winter.....or Spring?

Posted 12-19-2011 at 12:16 AM by NWBoarder

You tell me, cause the weather and conditions scream spring, and yet, it's only the middle of December. At least we have snow to slide on though. And slide I did today. It was my first clinic day for my new instructing job, and also my first clinic day ever. I had such a blast though and learned so much stuff about teaching people (especially kids) how to ride. Then we got to get some time with the clinicians where they just watched us ride and gave us pointers, as well as taking requests for what kind of stuff we wanted to work on.

So today I started dialing in some switch riding, which I'm not great at, but am getting better thanks to my own practice and determination. I also got to learn how to ride while looking back up the mountain. That was quite the experience at first, but then started to feel okay after a few times. We also did an excercise that forced us to make some turns with our eyes closed. That was hard. I did it, but it was damn difficult. The only thing I could do was listen to my fellow instructor who was guiding me and keep telling myself over and over that it's no different than with your eyes open. Talk about trusting yourself and someone else.

Anyway, it was a good day of riding overall, even if it was a little rainy at the base. I had tons of fun, learned lot's of good things, and even got a few compliments on my riding. That last one felt really good, especially since when I decided to take up boarding at 16, I was fully self taught, and really, until today, still was. Although, admittedly, between reading here on this forum, watching others ride, and riding with Snowolf as many times as I have is almost as good as a lesson. And on that note, I'm outta here. Now get out there and get some!
