2012-02-18 Woo hoo++

Posted 02-19-2012 at 10:16 AM by Donutz (This Side Up)

It hadn't stopped snowing since the last report, so by Saturday morning there was more than a foot of new, and still pounding down. This turned out to have a dark side, as A) they closed the Pit because they couldn't keep up with the grooming, and B) once the runs got tracked out they were really bumpy.

I had a real problem with my goggles because of the constant snow. The yellow lens really has finally given out. I met grafta at the top of Mystery and did a run with him -- more or...

2012-02-17 Woo hoo!

Posted 02-18-2012 at 01:22 AM by Donutz (This Side Up)

Went up twice today. Once in the morning with wife for a couple of hours. That was OK, it was snowing above the parking lot and there was a lot of new that had been groomed down. I didn't have a lot of time to roam the mountain. I did manage to fall off the flat-down box once. Hit the box, it was dry and I was standing too tall, the board dragged and I dumped. But it doesn't hurt! That's what I keep coming out with -- the bails aren't the season-enders that I seem to imagine they will be. God I'm...

2012-02-12 Improving

Posted 02-13-2012 at 02:21 PM by Donutz (This Side Up)

Went up yesterday (Sunday) on my own, as wife is still feeling like crap. The freezing level was obviously right at resort level as the precip kept shifting between rain and snow. Oh, and fog like pea soup too. I was very alarmed though to see how badly the recent warm temps and rain had eroded the snow base. There were bare patches on Chuck's, the Towerline saplings were all almost completely bare, and rocks showing through the bowl at the bottom of Velvet Gully. To make matters worse, the crew...

Feb.5 - Day 5/Week 3

Posted 02-06-2012 at 12:10 PM by seriouscat (NOOB Diaries)

Got up late on Sunday after messing with the bindings. I didnít think I progressed enough for the next lesson, so I decided to go for a afternoon practice run . The new malamute boots are much much stiffer, and press on some weird pressure spots while just walking and standing. however they would prove to be extreme comfortable while riding. This the first day I felt no discomfort on the feet. They do however, have a much larger footprint than the Burton boots.

The 3 hour session...

Jan.31 - Day 4/Week 3

Posted 02-02-2012 at 10:45 PM by seriouscat (NOOB Diaries)

After work practice on turns. The first hour was not very smooth as I think I am a little fatigued from other exercises. The form wasnít as good as the last session. The boots are actually bothering me a lot. Finally found a place in town with right Salomon boot sizes in stock. I am going to test them tomorrow.

Last two hours was a lot better, slowly getting the form back together, and was able to link a few turns together. Generally the turn distance has shortened. Near the end of...
