Default Saving a dried out base?

I just picked up an '05 K2 directional for really cheap on an impulse. The base looks really dried out. Im guessing it hasnt gotten a hot wax since it was purchased. What can i do to save the board? Will a standard hot wax suffice or is more prep needed?

If its just dried out I'd scrub it down with a scotchbrite pad and wax it. If it's really scratched up I'd take it in for a basegrind.
