Sorry, first post!

i'm looking to buy my first board, previously hired gear as i have to travel long distances to get to snow. I'm over getting hammered rental boards, or paying huge amounts to hire something half decent.

details include: 6ft, 200lb, size 11, 30yrs old.
i come from a wakeboarding/kiteboarding background. Snowboarding wise i'm intermediate, like carving powder and playing in natural terrain + trees with the odd jumps.

i don't like ultra stiff boards and am after something that will last me a number of seasons. i have been looking at the skate banana, westmark, skunk ape & eco genetics. don't have to stick to these though.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

cheers,
Dusty

Would look at the Arbor Coda 162 instead of the westmark, the arbor boards are great. Also K2 Turbo Dream162, Salomon Time machine 162, and Ride Wild Life 161. Those Gnu and Lib boards are pretty stiff. And the skate banana is not a great board.

I'd recommend the Never Summer Heritage. I'm the same weight as you, also intermediate. I bought the Heritage (160) before the 2010 season and it's still going strong. Not super stiff but definitely stiff and damp enough for hard charging; great response and handling; and it's held up better than any of my other boards.

I don't have a ton of experience with a large cross-section of boards, so I'm not saying the Heritage is better than board X or Y. But I am saying you'll be more than satisfied. You can go insane trying to determine the best board, and anyway such a thing probably doesn't exist.

Thanks for your help, great recommendations!

the coda looks like a perfect board, not overly interested in the graphics though. But i'd rather ride a decent board then a stylish one...

Jdang307- I'm in Australia, so only main stream brands at a hefty price. I've got a trip to US soon and plan to pick up a board while there.

cheers,
Dusty

Thats a huge difference in boards. Raptor sounds way too advanced (although I never rode one before).

The SL was a nice board, first good board I bought and it was a confidence booster (so damp and smooth) but I liked the Coda much more. But I will say my skills were better by the time I got on the Coda vs. SL.

I'll tell you this, after riding a Coda and then a Westmark back to back for almost a year, Arbor's rocker system is loose. You can get pretty damn sloppy on these boards and not pay for it. I hopped on a NS Cobra and was reintroduced to camber real fast (even if rocker/camber) with a take down or two before I tightened up my riding.

Westmark felt a little dead to me, the Coda had a nice spring/pop to it. Liked it a lot more.

My buddy is heavier than you and rode a 157 Riders Choice and it held up well. He's not an ollie-er though so no idea on pop. But at his weight it didn't snap in half off jumps so that's a good thing  Speed wasn't an issue (40mph or so).

I wish I could demo a K2 Turbo Dream, a lot of people recommend that board.
