Hello all, first of, thanks for having me . I'm excited to join yall in discussions down the line.

Now down to business

I'm buying my first board this season. I've been boarding seven or so full days so I'm not too green I've just never had the chance to actually buy my own board. Seeing as how it's a serious investment, i was hoping you all could help me figure this out.

Last time i went boarding was in mammoth. I spent three days there and used a marrow lithium board (i believe 2008).
Morrow Lithium Snowboard, 2006 - CrazySnowBoarder Review
heres a review on it if you're interested. The board took some getting used to (it was two inches under my chin at least) but by the end i was tearing up the diamond runs and it was amazing. I loved the control i had with the flex, and thats something i want in my board (maybe a little less though, i want to hit the double diamonds this season if possible)

So here's the dealeo, i want something similar to the lithium, My interests are about 60 percent bombing/carving hills 30 percent jumps and 10 percent park. I want something with a good flex so i have alot of control but that can handle serious carving (I'm used to a "pretty" flexible board that's quite a bit under my chin)

Oh and one last thing, i get 50 percent off DC boards :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

I guess since I'm so concerned with flex I should detail what i mean when I say i want flex. I'm 185 lbs, 5 ft 11, and the board was two and a half inches under my chin. And i loved it (but i could use a little more stability)

Also, thank you everyone who helps out. This is a big deal for me as I am a starving student and I really appreciate any and all input.

Ok but why a ply? I was hoping to keep my length under 155 (i like being able to transition quickly.) Is the excessive length for handling steeper hills (double blacks)? Because i can hand the blacks just fine with a 145. (maybe the ply is lighter?)

And yeah i get 50 percent off. I know someone who works for quicksilver and apparently they can get me 50 off of anything on the quicksilver and DC site.

Can't help you with the DC stuff since I've never ridden any of it, but ignore the chin stuff. Your weight is what matters when choosing a size. Then match the flex with the riding you want.

Of course those are guidelines and you can mix and match. Mammoth is ... well, Mammoth. You'll want something on the stiffer side if you're bombing it.

Isn't the Ply a freestyle board?

DC Devun Pro? Mega? Tone? Check those out.

because there isn't much to choose from in the DC lineup; all their boards are pretty basic, the Ply is a mid flex board, like you want. Camber for riding groomers and 159 for stability. i don't know what mammoth is like, I'm guessing if it is not too steep. if you want to ride fast outside the park you could get away with a 153-155 but definitely don't go smaller, you are a big dude, big dude need big boards, i rode a 145 when i was 13 and weighed 125 lbs. the 115 pound girl who ride with us rides a 150.

you mentioned you were a poor student, spend less on the board and more on lift tickets.

I'm probably gonna get a free trip to mammoth this season and free housing once in tahoe so i can afford to splurge on the board. Plus my local mountain is cheap if you have your own gear. Mammoth gets pretty steep in my opinion, but I'm sure there are steeper places. Still, the double blacks are at a pretty scary angle.

gives you a good idea of what it looks like. I forgot how steep that is, maybe I'll hold off a season haha

Thank you for the input, I'm really thinking this is what I'm gonna get now.
But I've got a few weeks so I'm still open to any suggestions out there ;)

DC Ply Snowboard 2012 Review - YouTube

this video really sold me too. I just have one question, he said it's meant for medium to long arch turns. What exactly counts as medium, because i like to ride the... what are they called, when the snow becomes diveted so that there's large bumps everywhere. I'm also figuring that riding down these has alot more to do with my ability to transition front to back than it does with the boards carve circumference but knowledge never hurt anyone right?

I know i know i must sacrifice something for something, just trying to figure out what those somethings are.
