A couple seasons ago everyone here was recommending the Never Summer SL left and right. It may as well have been the all-mountain mascot of these forums. Now I don't hear shit about it. What happened?
AFter playing around on my other boards last Saturday, I switched back to my NS SL and realized how much I love it - flexible for ground tricks and yet fast for all-mountain.... my fav board
I've got both the Proto and the SL. The Proto is really just a twin SL. If I had more of a reason to ride a set-back stance I'd ride the SL more, but being in a region that doesn't see much pow, the Proto pretty much covers most types of riding. But on the rare deep day, I break out the SL.
Yeah I went from the SL to the Heritage so it is gone from my quiver. That being said I rode the SL just as much as my blacklist just depended on what the day held for me.
Saw this limited edition SL on reddit a while back. Super tempted to buy it but I've never spent $550 (including shipping) on a snowboard before. Plus I doubt many people play skyrim and snowboards.
Lol. It looks like someone vomited on the base. Glad only 80 were made. Not my bag I'm afraid but whatever floats yer boat, or board, in this case...
I plan on getting an SL this year and spent a while debating whether to get a cobra instead. However, I've read a lot of reviews that say the cobra design came out of the proto and/or heritage rather than the SL?
Might be because of the whole fiasco on here with the NS reviews/free boards given to certain members (or whatever it was, I didn't follow it) and then the shit storm with Battle of the Brands. Either way, who cares just ride whatever you like.
I love my SL but like others have said tend to keep it on standby for when I'm chasing powder in Tahoe or Mammoth or the rare times we get powder at Bear... I usually tend to grab my Arbor Draft for my everyday fuck around board cause its just fun for the typical conditions out here...
NS pushing the "Made in America" marketing slogan in their fight to gain votes on FB. People like BurtonAvenger getting his panties all in a bunch on their page because of it, others saying their video sucked and they shouldn't of made it that far etc.
Yea, it seemed more about the brand and boards then the video. Most comments refered to the love for the company or board, not the video. Some people took it too serious.
About the SL. I love my SL but the proto fits my style of riding better. I think people are taking a break from hyping NS boards because every time someone does they get harassed and called a fanboy or labeled as such. But no one says shit about allllllllll the lib tech trs etc talk. There are a few that have a NS pet peeve, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
All this shit is just silly... Opinions are like assholes everybody has one... Reviews and media hype should always be taken with a grain of salt... Bottom line pick the board you like that fits your size, weight and the way you want to ride as well fits your budget... As long as your happy with your gear who cares what anybody else thinks and if someone wants to piss and moan about your set up then fuck em and tell em to go kick rocks...
In terms of the SL, in my opinion the introduction of the Proto and the Cobra have essentially made the board obsolete. Both give you similar flex patterns. Go with the Proto if you want a true twin or go with the Cobra if you want the slight setback. The carbonium topsheets and blunted tips give them the nod over the SL.
I still think the SL is a special board, and if I had to choose 1 board to ride out my days on, that would probably be it. The Cobra was my primary ride for the last 2 seasons, but I kept an SL in the quiver. Decided to move from a 55 to a 58 this year, and for whatever reason ended up pulling the trigger on an SL instead of a Cobra. That board just always feels like home to me.
