Looking for a larger replacement

Hi there,
I am an intermediate boarder, 185cm in size and ~90kg of weight. My feet are approx 28,7cm long and I'm currently riding a F2 Myst with 159cm length at a 17° and 20° angle.
I've been useing this board for quite some time now and I somehow don't feel at home anymore with it. It was good when I did more goofing around but ever since I started focusing on carving it just wasn't enough anymore. I did upgrade my bindings and boots and eventhough the general feeling did improve a lot, it's still getting "flappy" when I try to carve on the piste with a little more pressure. Maybe this is even all my fault, I don't know.

So now I'm looking into boards mainly for piste and some powder in austria.
Since I haven't checked the market for almost a decade (yes, my board is in it's 9th season) I have no idea what I should be looking for.

Because I'm not useing it more than 1-2 weeks per year, I would like to keep the price in a moderate range, say under 400€.
(sorry for the bad english, I'm really tired and it's not my mother tongue)

I found a decent priced 2nd-hand "HEAD IC T" (162) from 11/12 (290€ unsused) and some new boards like the "Capita NAS wide 2014 163W", the "FTWO Blackdeck 162W" or the "Bataleon CamelToe 162" but honestly.. appart from the size I have no idea what I should be looking for :dunno:

Can you please help me out?

I don't know the boards you listed but can recommend two others you could look at. Husband has about the same stats (but smaller feets) and rides a NS Raptor 164. It has a hybrid rocker shape (rocker between feet), is fun to carve, good in occasional pow and handles afternoon bumps on groomers well.
He did demo a Volkl Selecta (I think, it was a 162) recently and stated that it has similar good riding properties (stability, float, carves groomer well). That one would be a hybrid camber: litle camber between feet and rocker tip.

Hi JJ,

It sounds like you got a lot of life out of your old board. Stoked! 9 seasons can/will wear down most boards and you will likely really appreciate a brand new crispy stick!

Honestly , none of your choices so far sound great. with a 28.7 cm foot and aggressive forward angles you definitely do not want a wide board. The Camel Toe is very powder specific so unless you really want a board for primarily off piste I would take that one off the list as well.

Where are you located and what gear do you have access to?

Sorry for the long pause and thx for all the feedback so far! I was real busy elsewere. :/

I live in Austria and only have access to that part of the market around here.
We have shops like blue tomato, surfinsel or hangloose.

I'm mostly taking 90% piste, 10% off-piste. Sometimes it shifts more to off-piste but never >50%. So if it's a board that works great on piste but "meh" in powder I'd still consider it.

My most recent find was the FTWO Respect. Any opinions about it?
I'm more and more thinking I should go up in lenght. Maybe to ~170? Does that sound realistic? It would mean +10cm compared to my recent board.

Hi,

Do you have specs on the FTWO Respect that you could link us to? F2 is not sold in North America that I know of and there is very little info available. As for 170 cm, what would you be hoping to gain? For primarily on Piste riding you would not need to go to that length unless possibly you are considering a race style board.

What I found:
Flex: 7/10
Core: G40 XT
Shape: Biax Licht Glas
Base: V-Base
Schlank Tipps
coating: F 4500 visionbase
build: Vario Rocker
middle width: 26.0cm

I'll add the (google-)translated text of the vendor:
Freeride Vario Rocker

Whether charges in difficult terrain or surf the deep snow, this is the F2 Respect, your best friend. The weight was also strongly reduced in order to facilitate the long ascents of your favorite slope slightly.

The F2 Respect is one of the best backcountry and boardercross snowboard out there.

hmm.. really? :/
28.5cm feet+~2cm boots, considering +1cm on each side I should be able to go 20° on the 27cm board. At least according to my measurements. :icon_scratch:

How wide of a board should I be looking for in your opinion?

@longer board: Piste gets more and more bumpy over the day since they are not allowed to fix it during the day. I'd expect it to be more stable over bumps.

Hi,

Your angles (20 degrees) will eat up more than the difference and you would be left with minimal or negative barefoot overhang. This will result in poor leverage which is particularly important for positive carving. You can test this for the specifics of your foot anatomy by placing your heel against a wall with your toes facing straight away from the wall. Lay a ruler perpendicular to your foot (parallel to the wall) at the very tip of your longest toe. Then angle your foot to your actual stance angle (not moving the ruler). The gap between your foot and the ruler is the distance lost due to stance angle.

Length is not the best answer for comfort in crud and mangled snow. This is best accommodated by the correct flex and running surface for your weight and a shovel shape that rides up well (typically more prolonged).
