I am also a noobie at snowboarding. I am 5'11" 197 lbs. Size 9 shoe. I love the sport and really want to get good at it. Any advice on equipment purchase and best places for lessons in the New York area? Thanks

Well find a shop that has a competant boot fitter and make sure you get a properly fit boot. Spend the most money to get a good boot for yourself, no one can recommend you a boot as no two feet are the same. If you feel any hesitation in your fitters competancy walk out. I recommend going to Special Sauce in Bayshore and asking for Tyler he's a good kid knows his shit. Boards I'd suggest the Rome Solution, Atomic Coldsmoke, never summer sl,

It's when the liner of the boots get heated up, you put your foot it, tie up the boot, and let the foam cool down to the shape of your foot. This process essentially breaks your boot in faster.

I second the advice on going to Special Sauce... I've been going there for years, mostly for skate shoes but they have some very good people in there who all skate, surf and snowboard so they understand your needs well. Also even though they're a bit smaller than say a SkiStop or a Princeton they're priced the same. They'll take good care of you there.

They're not that close dude you're looking at like at least a half hour of time between the two shops! Good luck though, where you coming from in NY? Depending on where you amy want to stop at a SnoHaus in Huntington on 110 and Jericho TPKE and Princeton which is right off the LIE
