size charts are basically BS. get the machete it will better at both things, the only things the buck wild is slightly better at is carving, halfpipe, and huge ass jumps (like pro size 60 ft jumps).
You don't need a wide nor a 158 I'm 6 foot 2 and ride a 156 Kink and a 157 Buck Up and spent all of last year on a 157 machete. At your height a 155 machete will be perfectly fine for what you want. Go buy it strap on some binders and tear up the snow.
for your reference, i'm 5'7" 160 lbs riding a 155 machete. I love to charge the mountain and no park, and the 155 is perfect for my riding, as the board is stable at high speeds.
155 vs 158? all depends on the type of riding you prefer
I'm about 205 lbs (and btw it's weight only, height doesn't matter) and I'm on a 161. Last board was a 163. I prefer the 161, but it's also more all mountain than my previous freeride was.
No park, love trees and going fast. The 161 is perfect for me. If I wanted park also, I would on a 158.
At 170 lbs, and looking for some park riding, you're a 155. Not saying 158 is impossible for you in the park, but the 155 is a better fit.
I charge as fast as humanly possibly on my 157 at my height and ever never had a problem at high speeds on my 157 machete last year. It's up to you I assume.
I'd say machete not buck-wild. I'd also say not wide.
Perfect.
Either would have been fine, so it's up to you to decide if you'd rather round up or down based on your "feel"; but only you have that information.
As far as sizing, I'm 6'4" 205 and I ride the 161 and love it. I take it into park and hit everything.
