Never Summer Size

Hey guys, noob here. My son wants a board for Christmas and a coworker is selling a Never Summer Legacy board and Burton custom bindings that he used once for $150. The boards 158cm, the website says it's good from 140-190lbs. My sons 14, 135lbs, 5' 7" but it looks like the smallest adult board the carry is a 156. The generic online calculators says he should be in a 146. Seems like a great price on the package. Would we regret buying it? Thanks in advance!

First of all, that board is old as fuck. It might be worth $50, certainly not $150. Secondly, yeah, 158 is way too big for him. Since he's 14 and still growing, I'd go for something around 150-152ish. A little big for him right now, but something that should last him a couple of seasons.

Not to mention the Legacy is a wide board which your son certainly won't need.

Thanks for the advice, we'll keep looking then. I know it's probably like anything else, personal preference. But any suggestions in that price range? He's pretty new to the sport. Thanks again.

It looks like you're in a snowy area (duh) so check out the local craigslist? You're not going to find anything for $150 board and binding. Increase it to $300 and you can find a ton of good stuff new. A lot of 2013 models going for $200 and bindings for around $100. Not crap either.

I'll be totally honest, I have no idea what I'm looking at. I'm at the mercy of the seller which is never a good idea. My first thought was to buy used rentals.

At least you realize this. Don't buy used unless you know what you're looking at. I sure wouldn't buy a used rental. I've seen the way these tourists treat rentals.

Just do what you did here with this, if you find something, post it up to see what some of the more knowledgeable members (which doesn't really include me, btw) say about it before making an offer.
