All Mountain Board North East Riding

Hello all,

In the market for a new board. Intermediate rider, looking to step it up.

Used to ride a Gnu Carbon High beam, then was bought a Gnu Street Series as a gift (i don't really park much, looking for a more appropriate board).

All mountain riding. Mostly VT & local southern NY Conditions.

5'8" 170lbs 10.5 boot

Was thinking of a Burton Custom Flying V 156 or Gnu Riders Choice (don't like graphics, tho )

Any input is appreciated!

Sounds like you are looking to get into a decent all mountain board that will handle the Ice Coast.

If that is correct, I would suggest you give some thought to the following:

Anything from Lib with C2 BTX profile & MT

Anything from Rossi with the Amptek profile & MT

If you want something a little less aggressive on the MT front:

Jones Mountain Twin

YES PYL

All of these will do a fine job of dealing with the hardpack / ice conditions of the North East

Do yourself the favour and Demo as many as you can.

Hi cascboard,

Please post up your foot size as well. That will help us get this dialed in for you. Rider height is not a factor in board sizing.

STOKED!

Sounds like you ride where I ride. If you did go Burton I would suggest the Custom (camber) over the Flying V for better control since it does get icy around those parts

Updated. 10.5 boot. So I don't believe I'll need a wide board. Thinking of going for a 156 ish size board.

I used to ride a 159 GNU Carbon Credit, great lower end board by Mervin that I now use for more open pow days. Now I ride a 157.5 Rider's Choice and personally love it. I used to ride a Burton, Ride, Rome, etc, and the GNU's have been my favorites.

Obviously as with all boards, the longer you get the more stable it will be.

I ride VT mostly backwoods 3 days a week

Edit: I'm 6', 165lbs with no gear on, size 10 boot.

Thanks for that extra info. In the Custom V you are best centered on the spec for the 160. 175 lbs. is he very max rider weight for the 156 so, while you could do that both the 158 and 160 would be better choices.

You would want the Riders choice in 157.5.

The Custom is actually more similar to the Eco Genetics in terms of Flex. You would want the 159 if you were interested in that model.

Stoked!

I really want a Riders Choice... I despise the graphic. Big fan of GNU

I realize most people will probably think I'm dumb.

Thanks for all your help.

Would you recommend the custom camber over the v for where I'll be riding, also?

A lot of sites don't seem to even carry the base custom. Everyone seems to be pushing the custom v.

it's a great board man. which graphic don't you like? imo last years with the axes is pretty sweet, this years and the year before are just okay.
But yeah, like most will say the graphic plays the smallest role in your board.. form follows function
