Homemade Board

My dad and I are thinking about building a snowboard out of wood at home over the summer. Any suggestions, ideas or experience doing this?

ummmmmmmmm, do you have any idea od what you are doing? one of the first things is finding really thin plys of wood which is extremely hard, then you need a press, most likely a vacuum press except it would have to be fairly large...
and unlike skateboards which i have built, snowboards use stringers, which im not sure how they would be used..

Haha wow, thats going to be incredibly difficult.

If you are making just a few it will cost you more in materials and equipment than it would to just go out and buy them. It will also take more than a few failures until you get the trick of it.

Things you will need:

Materials
Thin sheets of wood
Epoxy (an assload of it)
Fiberglass sheets
Nuts for the bindings
Aluminium for the edge
Varnish for the topsheet
P-Tex for the base

Equipment:
A router
A drill
Silkscreen machine for any graphics
Press
Sander
Molds for the p-tex base
templates for the wood core
a machine to form the edge.

That ought to give you an idea of how a snowboard is made. It's a very complicated and skilled process, thats why they cost so much!

haha sweet thanks! It will probably be more of a long term relaxed project than a scheduled build, but I'm excited about it. Thanks for the help.
