Magne-Tractiong: Opinions?

I have a GNU B-Nice and I love the fact that it has magne-traction. I know GNU and LibTech are pretty much the companies that make edges like this. Anybody else ride a board like this or have an opinion on it?

Oh geez I spelled it wrong in the title. That's really gonna bug me..

http://www.snowboardingforum.com/boa...-traction.html

Lots of board companies have something similar now. Burton calls them "frost bite" edges. I had them on a few boards and my newer straight edge boards have more grip (because the boards I bought have longer effective edge length)...

Anyway, let the great debate continue!

Meh. Magnetraction and even arbor griptech feels weird to me. Camber zones and less intrusive methods like vario grip feel more smooth.

If you have enough edge pressure I don't think it matters. Magnetraction is not going to save you if you don't commit to a turn on a steep slope.

So is magnetraction overrated? I am about to order a Rossingol Templar they have on Evo for $160... Is that a bad idea? I ride primary icy hard pack (ice coast).

I think there's a lot of different opinions out there with no real hard data.

If you THINK it'll help you, then it'll help you. Snowboarding is 90% mental, 10% gear...

For what it is worth I have a Rossi Diva with the magne traction and I do think it is better than the camber board I had before for hanging on. I am a north eastern boarder so almost entirely hard pack and ice. I do no park. As another poster said it won't save you from sliding down the side of a steep face if you fail to commit and engage your edge properly but it will reward laziness on less steep terrain.

IMO it's just easier to have it. you can do without it, but you'll have to work harder to stay upright on the ice

That's the trouble, it's all subjective. Seems like it's about 50/50 on the forum here for those who love it, and those that think it's a gimmick.
