Default pow board sizing advice

Hey everyone,

I have a question about powder specific boards related to sizing. I'm a feather weight (130lbs) and currently ride a 154 Proto everywhere (ridden it in Revy, KH, Whistler, Vail, back home on ice hills, etc.). I'm looking to add a pow boards to take out west to help when it dumps. My question relates to size. I'm not keen to upsize too much over what I currently ride but instead looking at powder specific shapes at the same size to help. However, will that minimize the effect? In short, will a 153 Powder snake or a 154 Charlie Slasher be significantly better in pow than my 154 Proto? Or will I need to upsize to the 156 PS / 158 CS to see significant results?

Thanks!

I have a 158 Charlie and I weigh 160lbs in my boxers. I wish I had the 164, so I would say get the 158. That's my opinion with experience on a Charlie.

The CS will be a shit ton better in pow than your Proto. A 154 would be plenty for you at 130.

I'm a little over 200 right now full geared up and my 164 CS is unsinkable.

Those are designed to excel in powder specifically.

The Proto, is not

& there you have it

yup a 54 cs ought to do, esp if got a bit of skills, I'm 180 on a 64, set up even on the inserts w/o additional set back....stand up and float

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I rode the proto when it dumped in Vail...and managed imo decently...given that I'm from the east coast...i was just toast by the end of the day.

So what about the 53 powder snake? Even giving up 1 cm in length, its gonna be far more effective in the deep stuff?

Does anyone have an idea which board is stiffer between the snake and slasher?

Thanks again!!

im a bit heavier than you at 67kg and i ride a 158 pow shape as my pow board. getting a pow board in a size similar to your regular board will help as a pow shape will give you better float, but you will still want to upsize to get more surface area.
