I read throught that entire Carvers Almanac and now I want to buy like $1,000 worth of tune up equipment and a few crappy craigs list boards to dice up and practice on! It's going to be a long summer after all.
A friend of mine warned me that it takes about $400 to get all the stuff you need for tuning.
I didn't believe him but by the time you buy all of the stuff it adds up to that. File guides, diamond stones, vises, iron, etc. cost a lot. It pays for itself over time, and I keep my stuff sharp. With 7 boards in the family it doesn't take long to pay back.
It is much less stressful if you have an old rock board that you can mess around on first.
