Talking setup advice

Ok so iv never been snowboarding before mainly due to the fact that i live in Australia and we dont really have the best snow, so i need a bit of advice on what i should get. Im planning on going to whistler for 5 months of the 09/10 snow season, i do a fair bit of surfing and wakeboarding down under so im thinking i need a board that will be easy to learn on but be able to adjust to differnt riding styles when i get better. I have a mate that loves GNU boards so he rekons i should start there, so at the moment im thinking of getting GNU CHB board for more of an all mountian board , rome targa bindings but have no idea on what to look for in boots. im willing to spend a bit of money seeing as tho ill be using it everyday for 5 months . So yeah any advice for type of board/bindings/boots would be appreciated.
cheers
