Are Smokin snowboards in financial trouble?

Thought I heard from a friend who is sponsored by them that they might be in pretty heavily in the red, and might not make it. Anyone else have insight here?

Considering they sold out of all their boards except 2 styles this year I highly doubt it. They have VERY little overhead and a lot of business. I watched them ship a prepaid order for around 500 boards this summer to Korea that was prepaid.... I didn't even know they snowboarded that much in.Korea.

I'm guessing he is a regional rider and whoever the regional Rep is sponsoring him may be the.one with the issue. Brands don't pay regionals, some(very few) regional riders get paid by regional reps.

They did recently fire a production manager for fucking up to many times.... One of the owners took over that for now though....

Korea has a big snowboard scene, not sure how that happened, but they are a crazy bunch for sure when it comes to snowboarding...

I expect we will see more of them in competitions in the coming years as well... ;)

I thought I read somewhere they were about to move into a bigger factory in Reno to cope with their growth? They also claim they are now #3 domestic snowboard mnfr behind Mervin and NS. The website has also been updated and looks much better than last year. All signs of growth I would think.

They do seem to be a bit of a love/hate brand. I was up in tahoe last week looking to demo their new awsym board - couple of stores who carry them up there love them, and a couple of others who don't carry them made it clear to me they pretty much hate them! Seems smokin jay is a bit of a "character"...:D

Isn't Mervin from Canada which makes them not domestic to the US?

Mervin is from / and made in Washington state. Their ads say "made close to Canada" as a joke.

Must be a bad rumor going around. I've wanted to try a Smokin Team for a while. Was just curious.

Anyone that has the sense of humor to sell a "buck ferton" is ok in my book. Just wish I could afford to ride it.

Buck Ferton

I really want to try the new awsymmetrical board. The Buck Ferton thing is getting a little old by now though...especially as they grow into a bigger company themselves...
