Normal, mid-wide or wide? How do you know what you need?

I have bigger than average feet (13.5 but 12 in sbb) and i have always been conscious of toe and heel drag especially when i was wearing size 14s when i didn't know any better.

Thing is there is a lot of information about width of boards out there but none of it that great and certainly none of it is definitive. Does anyone know of a reliable way to measure what width you need for what shoe size?

Also as a bigger footed rider i find it quite irritating that a mid wide in one brand i.e. an Arbor Blacklist has a 26.2 waist width but a wide Burton custom in a longer size has a 26 waist width. I would understand if the tip and tail was larger because of the sidecut but that isn't even the case.

So anyway, for the sake of my next board purchase does anyone know how best to gauge if a board is wide enough in relation to your feet on stats alone?

If I was in your shoes, I would aim for a 27cm waist with reduced footprint boots. That being said, if you don't use high edge angles, you can get away with quite a bit of overhang.

I have size 14 reduced footprint boots; board has a 28.6cm waist. (I also have a 28cm waist board and start noticing issues with overhang.)

27! Really, you think that big? Maybe you know more than i do but most "wide" boards i have seen don't get much wider than 26.5ish. Also you don't tend to get upwards of 26.5ish until you go to huge sizes. Why do these manufacturers think all people with bigger feet are huge chunks?

It's not going to be sluggish. It's sluggish if you can't get all the torsional flex from a board because your foot isn't long enough. IE size 9 on a 265 mm wide board.

A 13 will definitely be able to work the entire boards width. I can't imagine wanting a 249 mm board w 13 feet. It'd be like me standing on a hockey stick.
