diffrence in rocker and flying v

so I been riding for about a year now and have been on a friends board the whole time and think its time to get my own, I know for sure I want a burton but just cant decide which board.. I want a board to butter have a softer flex but can handle pow but also park,,, would really appreciate any help

in a nutshell the rocker has one contact point in the middle.

the flying V has the rocker in the middle, but have two additional points with camber to the side of the inserts.

There are better boards out there then burton.

Try arbor or mervin boards (gnu, lib-tech) or Never summer.

arbor westmark
never summer proto, sl

what is your budget?

might as well ask for weight and boot size.

thanks, im about 160 and size 10.5 boots, but been renting boots so might be able to downsize in a good pair.. I been riding a slight camber/flat board that's pretty stiff and the bindings couldn't get any worse lol, I like the other brands but the channel system with burton really caught my attention. Its a 155 and i feel very comfortable on it if anything could go down a size or two,, well not on to much of a budget but don't want to spend anything more then 500 on a board. i found a site called outhouse gear/ and everything seems to be very discounted plus i know a store that can work on process so im mainly just worried about getting a good board

i've never heard of outhouse gear. but other sites you may want to look into are evo.com, dogfunk.com, and backcountry.com

if you want a mountain board that is good like the flying V but better edge control take a look on ebay for GNU kass 155 monster. you can get that new for under 200 with shipping and go find some union bindings for 130 like the force.

350 for board and bindings .

since it has the two positive camber insets does it take away from the playfull and catch free feel, do you think you could still butter on that board or anycase any flying v style board?

24WERD 02-26-2014 04:14 AM

the camber is very mellow and doesn't come all the way back down.

Its the flex pattern that determines playfulness to a certain extent.

I can butter with my stiff mt board gnu billy goat.

its the rider not the board.

custom33 02-26-2014 04:34 AM

well if you or i were a perfect rider could you have a full rocker board and still handle it well coming down the mt ?

24WERD 02-26-2014 04:40 AM

yes, if the board has edge tech like mtx magnetraction, variogrip, or even griptech (arbor)
