Default Ice Coaster Board Dilemma

What up fellas,

I need some serious help on a board before I go crazy.

Stats are: Height = 5'9" and Weight = 170ish

For the past few years I have been riding a cambered Burton Seven 157cm from 2009. I have about 15, 8 hour days of experience on the hill. I can ride blacks for the most part, just started carving, and have began to venture into the park.

I want to get an all mountain board with the perfect amount of charging and freestyle. I ride on the east coast so I am really digging magne-traction and would like to try a rocker or hybrid rocker profile. Help me decide on these options:

GNU - Carbon Credit (Will I outgrow this fast?)

Libtech - TRS (Is this too advanced?)

Libtech - Attack Banana (Will .5 Magne be enough?)

GNU - Metal Guru (Same as above)

Smokin Superpark (Any reviews? Can't find much on this forum.)

Any other options would be seriously appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

All the boards you listed have rocker between the bindings. If you never rode a board with a rocker between the legs, I highly recommend you demo a board with a rocker between the leg before making your purchase.

It's a totally different feeling ride compare to a camber board. Especially riding on flats or just flat basing anywhere.

You might love the loose playful feeling or you might really hate the unstable teeter-totter feeling.

Welcome fellow Ice Coaster. Honestly I can't speak to these boards in particular. I used to own a C2 BTX billy goat which is similar to the TRS but more aggressive profile. It really depends what you want. I went from full magne-traction to .5 Magnetraction and I do notice a difference. The .5 is still better than any Burton board I have road. So you will notice a difference there. But it really isn't as good as full. That being said if you are venturing into the park its too much. Its too catchy.

For you you really need to try these boards out. My choice would be the Metal Guru. I don't have experience on this but I demoed a board with EC2 and it was similar to my B2 just mellow.

Like the poster before me. going from a camber board you might not like the washy unstable feel you get with a mostly rocker board.

Thanks for the info guys.

I guess I might as well just cough up some cash and demo some boards this weekend.

Does anyone have a recommendation for particular boards taking into consideration my skill level and riding style?

I think I have the ability to test 4 boards for $40.

Should I give hybrid camber a try?

All thoughts are welcomed!

Definatly try before you buy. I was in the same boat as you were. I rode hardboot and heavely cambered boards on the East Coast before I went to a C2 BTX lib tech board.

Tried Burton flying V and it didn't work for me.
The C2 BTX and lib tech magnetraction is great in my opinion. One thing I do not like about my Skunk Ape is that the board is not fully wrapped with edges. Both tips are "unprotected".

Spending 40$ is better then making a multi-hundred mistake.

You might as well try a hybrid deck, if you hate ice, you may find the edge hold lacking, but at 10 bucks a board you might was well give it a chance

OP also look into the rossi one magtek. My friend rides on the east coast and swears by this board as an all mtn solution.

It has the magnatraction edges.

I really appreciate the advice guys.

So I called the resort I'm going to on Fri/Sat. Found out that they only have a "Burton Demo" package. The resort doesn't even have libs or gnu. Dafuq!

I think I am going to just go out on a limb and just buy a hybrid rocker when the price is right. I am leaning toward something with a full magne-traction. Really looking towards the C2 or XC2 model libs & gnus.

I've also thought about straight up banana but will that not fulfill my carving needs?

I plan on getting a season pass for my local resort next year and want to progress my riding in all aspects, hence the desire for an all mountain board.

Thanks for any input brosephs.

Rocker between the feet is definitely a different feel. When I went from camber to CRC it was a slight difference, mostly on flatbasing, but I adjusted quickly. Moving back to camber after 3-4 years, I definitely can feel the difference. Didn't need to adjust much, just notice the difference. I like the rocker between the feet. Others hate it.

That said, I've only tried Never Summer's crc. Wanting to try Smokin CTX which is less rocker apparently than the NS boards.
