Beginner snowboard recommendation
So my girlfriends son started snowboarding this year and seems to really like it. He's still very much a beginner and was only able to get out about 8 times. He rented equipment all season and now that there are some great sales going on I'd like to find him his own deck. He's 12 years old, 5'4", and about 115lbs. We live in the Midwest so lots of man made snow and it can get icy at times.
The rental board that he used this season had a fair amount of camber to it so I'm not sure which way to go regarding the profile. I'd like to get him something easy to ride but want to make sure he can use it for 2-3 seasons and allows him to progress. Is he better off with a camber/rocker hybrid?
The local shop recommended a Rossignol Circuit but it's mostly rocker. He wants to get in the park at some point but he's got a ways to go before he's good enough to start those shenanigans.
Any recommendations would be most appreciated.
If the local shop carries Rossi, I would go with a 153 Taipan. It has Rossi's RCR profile which is a very well rounded ride. I think all riders should learn what a little camber feels like in their early riding days. Ya, it's a directional twin, but very minor and he will have no trouble riding it switch. It is not so intimidating as full camber, but not a loose rocker ride either. It will let him learn how to carve properly, yet not kick his A**. Don't want to turn him off before he even gets started.
Nice to hear that he is keen to go. You will have a lot of fun watching / helping him get up to speed.
Excellent, thanks for the info! :)
Look on Craigslist, you know the good brands.
Then post em up here. We'll tell ya when you hit paydirt.
Get a used, good quality board.
Even a beat up quality board, give it a base grind.
Then tell him to go nuts.
Also 153 is too big, for an inexperienced hundred & fifteen pounder.
He ain't gonna like it much the first two years on that thing.
