So today my girlfriend faceplanted after catching an edge pretty hard, she landed directly on her face and even says she might have gotten knocked out for a few seconds. She is a beginner and is very discouraged after taking the face plant. Are there any good protection to make he more comfortable and reinsure her if she happens to take another spill face foward? Thanks in advance.

There's always safety gear like helmets and pads and what not but the biggest tip I was given when I started out was learn to fall as safe as possible. Try to spread that impact force so it isn't jacking up your wrists, shoulders, or in your gf's case, face... Falling is a part of learning. There are helpful vids on Youtube and the rest of the net for proper technique. I think once she gets comfortable taking a fall safely, she won't be as afraid of getting hurt from it...

teaching girls is the hardest thing ever, they get discouraged at the smallest of things let alone concussions lol...

this is what my buddy did: he was a dickhead to his gf, she didnt learn shit and she was crying the whole time. hes rather impatient and just wanted to hit the slopes. he leaves and shes with her friend and by the end of the day, without anyone yelling at her, she was enjoying herself and hitting real runs. i know many guys can possibly be like this so maybe you are pressuring her too much, or she just needs help. professional lesson would be the best bet.

Yup.

Pony up the 35-50 bucks or whatever it is to get her into a lesson for 2-3 hours and then go shred the mountain. By the time you get back she should be able to get down greens/blues with you fairly easily.

the best thing to do is be patient. it makes it a lot easier when the student is also cooperative. after they fall 10-20 times, they get used to it and accept the fact you will break your butt every now and then.

Biggest advice I drill people that I assist their learning curve with is, focus, focus and focus, on what edge you have on the hill is the one facing UP the hill, and not down. I repeat this quite a bit and so most I'm with don't get drastic head plants. May take then a bit slower to get assurance to point the board down the hill, but they're definitely more focused on what they're doing instead of letting the board wander which is mistake numero 1 when starting out and when you get overconfident just start linking turns thinking you "got it" till it catches at higher speed.

Of course take and give once they start carving and the edge isn't literally pointing up the hill, but it still works wonders for getting them started and confident over time until they get it down.
