Board Repair.. Smooth out base
Doing some repairs on my family's boards in the off season.
I have been using Ptex Candles, and SkiMender. Problem I am running into is Smoothing repair area. Procedure I have been using is to fill in gouge with Ptex, let it cool then scrape with Stanley Surform Tool to get smoother. then I follow up with Metal scraper. Maybe I am being anal, but repair is still not smooth.
Is there a type of sandpaper or other tool, to smooth out repair? would like to be cheap enough for a diy.
what you need is some tape and sand paper (maybe #800 or even more coarser). tape the good are and sand the repair area so its flush. then wax.
What I do, is make sure the base is flush before I Ptex.
If the area around the gouge is raised, I try to press it down with the edge of my metal scraper and if that doesn't work, I use a razor blade and shave any raised parts flush.
After that, I Ptex and scrape the Ptex flush with the base.
FYI: when I say shave with a razor blade, no matter how bad the gouge, I've never had to shave that much.
