Okay so I picked up 2 boards on sale last weekend. never sumer evo 4.0 and dc ply (both 2014 models). The Evo is rated 3.5 Flex, and the DC Ply is rated 6.
My questions is: The flex does not feel like a 6 on the Ply, more like a 4 (4.5 tops). I have heard DC rates flexes why too high? Is this correct

I think what burton avenger is so gently trying to suggest and you have identified yourself above, is each company has a different "scale" for flex. Therefore DC do not rate their flex too high as it is their own scale amongst their own boards and as far as I am aware (note the disclaimer) is not measured against any scientific or objective material facts or tests, just the "feel" of it.

So best way to test "flex" of a board ie soft and playful or hard charging is to try one out by riding it. Do you have a concern related to the boards performance?

And what does that even mean? There is no universal flex rating. It's an imaginary unquantifiable number thrown into marketing to make people believe that it means something. A 7 to you could be a 3 to me.

Bigger questions to ask. 1. Is the board fun? 2. Does it suit my needs? 3. Am I having fun? 4. Why am I over analyzing this? 5. I'm going to shut up and ride now?
