Default Cork use during a wax job

From my younger race days I have a bunch of cork that I used to use. I used cork after I did a scrap, but never did any structuring. This was in the days before youtube and forums and I was young so just kind of bought stuff and winged it as far as application, so probably wasn't doing myself any real favors in my wax job from a performance stand point.

Is the cork used in replace of the scotchbright phase? Or is it simply used in the application of a cold wax to try to get a little better penetration into the base? More a curiosity thing as I am just getting back into things and when I looked at my old waxing area noticed the cork.

iirc, corking would be used in lieu of an iron, without the effectiveness of the heat of an iron letting the wax penetrating into the base.

Many rub-on waxes do include cork.

Corking is also for fluoro overlays for racing proposes also.
