YES PYL or Slash Straight for POW/freeride?

I got rid of some boards and I'm redoing my quiver and I'm looking to get a POW/free ride board to complement my boards I currently have.

1. Rome Artifact rocker 150cm (Park)
2. Rome Mod Rocker 153cm , Rossi Angus 153cm ( All mountain freestyle)

I'm looking to get either the YES PYL 156 cm or Slash Straight 159cm.

I'm 5'10 155lbs and mainly ride in the east coast but I make trips out to the west 2-4 times a year.

This board is mainly for little POW days we get in the east but also a board I would take out to my west coast trips.

Main purpose of the deck is to ride better in deeper POW than the MOD rocker and Angus and also be better at going fast on groomers than those two boards. Being better in POW is more important feature.

Both boards have gotten good reviews here and I suspect I can't go wrong with either one. I was wondering which one would be better choice with the boards I currently have.

Thanks for any input.

Yeah I think both would be great for what you describe. I've got a Straight and I can attest that it's super fun. Never rode a pow specific deck until I got it and noticed a huge improvement in riding deep stuff. It seems to cut through tracked/chopped stuff well also. Cruising groomers in the afternoon I had issues at first with speed wobble but I think I just needed to adjust to the board, not so much of an issue after riding it a handful of times. The 2014 is on dogfunk for $269 also

I'm really curious about Slash's "Reactive Flex". My BS meter goes off because it sounds like pure marketing hogwash, but if it actually works like they say it does then that would be pretty damn sweet.

From Slash:

The most advanced board technology available today! A composition of two unique fiberglass layouts in combination with our new lightweight wood cores that are specifically assembled and profiled by our engineers in Switzerland. Reactive Flex gives our boards the ability to also flex across the width. So, however you bend the board it will react the best way imaginable. For example if you jump on a park rail for a boardslide, the board edges lift up, creating a convex base which minimizes your chance of catching an edge. When carving a turn, it works the other way around. The board edges flex downward, creating a concave base which makes your edge bite more into the turns. This is automated flex in 3d!

I've seen the tech in the reactive flex. It does what it says it does.

It's benefit in a snowboard? Eh. I will say though that the Happy Place and Straight were both very stable boards and when up on edge acted like they were on rails. The reactive flex may have helped with that making the board concave in a carve, or it could have just been the sidecuts doing their job and being paired correctly with the core flex pattern. The time I had on them was too little to get a real idea if the reactive glass was actually doing anything.

Either way, Slash are proving to be pretty awesome sticks

Can't comment on the Slash, but I did put about 20 days on a '13 PYL this season. Don't know if they made any changes for the '14.

What I do know is that the PYL is a really excellent deck. I found it to be a true confidence builder; a board that never produced a "bad" moment all season. Comments here suggest that the Slash is better in the pow, but don't underestimate the performance of the PYL. I took it out to Whistler a month ago and rode it in just about every condition and at no point did I wish I was on something else. No doubt it will be outperformed by decks more slanted to pow, but it does everything very well. I found it to be a deck that could more than handle anything I could toss at it.

An outstanding freeride experience.

Thanks for the info. I'm 5'10 155lbs and if I end up going with PYL, I was thinking 156 cm. I wasn't sure if that was little too short for me to ride in deep POW.

If you didn't have problems with float at 205lbs with the 161 PYL, I guess 156 would be OK for me.
