Hi I just recently got my first snowboard and have been wondering about binding, board, boot combinations. I won the board in a design competition and its has my design on it. They sent me a Salomon Scout despite the fact i asked for a the new Official but they were sold out. Shit happens i guess. I have been skiing for 10 years and want to progress fast in snowboarding so i need a decent binding. I was thinking about the Union Forces or Rome Targas? I dont know about boots. What is this board like? A plank or ok?

I am about size 9 in shoes and am 175 cm tall. The board is 157 whitch i think is about right.

first off, the length of board you want depends on your weight, not height, and what you want to use it for. also, both the forces and the targas are excellent bindings, i personally love the forces but a lot of people also love their targas because they are really adjustable. i would say whatever you can get a better price on, especially since youre just starting out. i dont know anything about saloman boards though. and for boots, try on as many pairs as you can and get the ones tha fit best. you can also use the search feature on the forum to find more infor about the forces and targas, and maybe your board.

I'd go with Targa bindings as you can adjust the heel/toe flex which I don't think you can with the Force. Considering you're new to snowboarding, you'd want something a little more foregiving, which I think the Targas will be.

Your boots are the most important part of the equation. There's no reason to spend lots of $$ on bindings since you've never snowboarded before. What if you drop hundreds of dollars on a setup and you find that you hate it?

Since it's your 1st time snowboarding, go rent some boots and bindings and try snowboarding before you buy anything.

If you fall in love with it, most bindings made today are pretty good. Anything from Salomon, Rome, Union and K2 will be good stuff. It's tough to go wrong with any of those.

I think that renting boots is definatly a good idea for my first few times but i think i would like to get bindings. I have hear the unions a basicly unbreakable is this true?

I would do the exact opposite and buy boots(you can always return them after a day or two) and rent board/bindings.

Most mountains i've tried out here had trash boots that are either way too stiff, have zero padding, or are packed out from being ridden dozens if not hundreds of times.

But since hes a skier he can probably get away without renting, because hes probably in good enough shape to learn snowboarding without giving up.
Most people give up snowboarding because they are out of shape and get tired after an hour of falling.

Boots are by far your most important peice of equipment though, I would say moreso than your board.
You can snowboard with a shitty board/bindings and good boots just fine, you might not have the minut control you get with better bindings/boards but you can learn and get down the mountain.
If you try riding with shitty boots you will quit in an hour after your feet are numb or aching to hell or both.

Unions are good bindings, but out of every manufacturer mentioned, Rome stands behind their stuff the most. If you break your straps or ladders on a Union binding, you have to buy replacement parts. Do the same thing with a Rome binding and they send you the parts to fix it for free.

def don't rent boots, you could end up with something that will totally ruin your first experience boarding! Boots are the first and most important thing you should get, cuz nothing will kill your day of riding more than bad fitting boots. heel lift + foot pain = game over
