Snowboarding beginner - Snowboarding Forum

Hi guys, i am just wondering would anyone be able to tell me what size board i should be buying. I am 5ft6inches = 169cm (i think). Oh and i am a beginner

You will likely start off with a free-ride board (I don't think you'll be hitting the park any time soon), but you may also want to list your weight and even snowboard boot size. Also, manufacturer's have different specs for their boards, so one company's 161 board will feel totally different than another company's 161. So do you have any ideas what brands you are interested in?

agreed, go rent before you buy, make sure you don't hate snowboarding when you just paid $800-$1000 for a set-up

Well firstly thanks to everyone for the replies. I have done snowboarding once before in Lake Tahoe and loved it and im now living in australia so taking it up here in the winter. Oh yea and good guess with my weight coz you are spot on at 150lbs (Slaughterhouse. Heaight again is 5'6-7 and my boot size is 10uk or 11us so let me know what size board and other info i should need. Thanks a million guys

Wow...I don't know how much money all of you have but you can get a pretty damn nice setup (board, bindings & boots) for under $500...

correct me if im wrong, shouldnt the board be between your chin and nose in length if you stand it up strait next to you.

No, board length should be determined primarily by rider weight. Height is a factor when it comes to stance, but generally it's a weight ratio

sorry if this is off topic but it has to do with board sizes, but would it be bad if i got a board that is just my size, like the weight reqirments are 120-170 and i weigh 120 lbs and 155cm is just about a little less then an inch above the bottom of my nose. Im looking at the burton 2008 blunt. I either get the 151cm board( 105-155lbs) or the
155cm board( 120-170lbs). which should i get?

Well how old are you/do you think your weight will increase in the near future?
