I'm new to snowboarding, but I have gone once before. I was able to pick it up pretty quick and really like it. I'm going this year, and decided with a $175 rental fee, I might as well buy one.
I'm 160 pounds 5'10" tall and wear about 9.5-10 shoes (don't remember boot). I ride facing left, and I think freeride would be better for me since I only would go at most once a year. Also, could your recommend me a good cheap helmet and boots. Hopefully I can find someplace to try them on in Oklahoma City. I already own goggles and pants. I like to keep the total cost for this stuff under $300 if possible. Thanks for your help! |

Honestly, it's going to be VERY difficult to find all that stuff for under $300. If you're only going once a year, then you should just rent. $175 rental fee? Are you sure that's not for the whole season? If you rent once a year that fee should be around $30.

$200 is £100!!!???
you ain't gonna find much outside of Walmart or eBay! you get what you pay for and frankly, a cheap helmet will just give you a false sense of security! (unless you value your brain to be quite worthless of course...? )

If you are sure that you can't spend more check out some retailers like the-house.com and buysnow.com along with sierrasnowboard.com. Spend you money 1st on a pair of boots, then on board, then bindings imo. Hope this helps you out, and good luck!

Would something like this not be any good?
Head CONCEPT 162 Snowboard+Bindings 2 Year Warranty NEW - (eBay item 150179592068 end time Nov-08-07 19:30:00 PST) Then pick up a pair of boots and helmet in town for however much decent ones would be. |

MPDsnowman recommends the board regularly. He got it for his son, and evidentally it's a great board. That seems like a really good deal, but I think a 162 is going to be big for you.
