So this year I fully re-invested into splitboarding and so far every single piece of gear I own has either broken or not functioned as I had hoped. I am looking for advice on a reliable setup that will hopefully allow me to be more efficient during skinning while not fully sacrificing downhill capabilities. Even though as a teacher scrapping the setup and potentially starting over with a hardboot oriented setup would be rough it is starting to seem like the only option.
Male 145lbs 5'10"
Issues (everything is brand new 2014):
Jones Hovercraft Split 152 using g3 split skins
-having serious problems holding an edge while skinning/back washes out and board gets very little traction
-durability is a problem, the top sheet seems to be crumbling and the rear rail has recently ripped completely away from the board from a seemingly minor root collision
Spark Deeluxe boots:
-Loved the boots but almost immediately started loosing the side clips which hole the laces tight, this causes my foot to rise out of the heel cup. They are now extremely loose. Backcountry.com and the company have both been hard to deal with this while trying to get a refund
Karakoram Split 30 bindings:
-I like the bindings but the amount of moving parts/screws were initially a headache with large backcountry pushes (series of minor malfunctions)
BD Compactor Poles:
-returned and replaced because the metal piece on top of one section slid into the pole and caused the pole to go limp while skinning on flat ground.
I am looking for advice on what to do with my old setup and how to proceed with looking for a new one to help me finish out the season here in the Tetons.
