it is tuff being a consumer these days, what with all the choices out there.
your weight is important in determining the appropriate length of your board, height is less of a factor really. you may need to indulge in a well known brand in case of issues of reliability and or warranty / customer service, but this is not such a big deal. if you have huge feet, ie bigger than size 13 etc, then board width is an issue....(possibly) but whilst i am inclined to say that no one consideration takes priority, but it is a combination of all factors, i guess the most important consideration for an absolute beginner, is one of flex! (you didn't see that one coming did ya!?)

I'm with Snowolf...it's a combination of factors for me. Performance usually is the driving force with bang for the buck rounding it out. I could really care less about the graphics or style of the board unless it's absolutely horrid but even then if I thought the equipment was tuned specifically for what I am looking to do and was the best performance/value combination out there I'd still probably go with it.
