Hello every1,

I really need help choosing a new board, i´ve been riding a carbon credit for 3 years and feel that i need to step up to a better board. I dont do park, mostly groomers/ice and powder when its available. I dont have a home resort, im currently living in brazil and traveling to chile/argentina and europe or usa twice a year to ride. My boot is size 12 so i can only ride wide boards (i think).
I consider myself a intermediate rider. I ride a lot in chile and argentina and they dont clear the rocks as good as they do in europe or usa so im better of with a though board.Im 6'2 and weight 210lb, i was considering the rossignol xv magtek, the jones flagship or even the ns chairman

OP, we all ride pow if available :)... how often is that in your case? Will this be your one quiver board? You're really looking for a big mountain board? Or rather for a freeride board mainly for groomers which would do well in occasional pow?

If you ride bc/sc quite often and have a backup board, the Flag is awsome. But not as one quiver. It's a very stiff board. Be prepared to have to wirk a lot if you take it to unsuitable conditions e.g. spring moguls.

Agreed, definitely not a quiver killer. It's got it's place but this is a burly board and it will absolutely ride you if you're not on point with it.

I haven't been riding as many demos as I'd like to the last year or two so my sample sizei is limited, but maybe something like the Bataleon White Gold for camber w/TBT, or the Marhar Bohemian which is a rocker. I really liked the Bohemian this year, will be riding the new version I think for a few laps on Saturday.

The other freeride ripper that I rode, straight camber, is the Burton Tough Cat which will be new for 2016 it slays groomers and hardpack, didn't have a chance to ride it in fresh but it fits the bill.

Never Summer Snow Trooper comes to mind. Tough board that can charge groomers and will do well in pow. If you really want to get aggressive go with the Rip Saw. That board will hold an edge on a hockey rink.

Is one of those a successor of the Raptor?
(Raptor would be a fine rounded board)

When i go to europe or USA most of the times i get pow but in chile/argetina its more rare. Im really in between the never summer snowtrooper and the ripsaw.
I just need a board that its good on powder but can ride groomers/ice well and its not anything towards freestyle.
This is going to be my only board since i have to travel so far to ride.

Thanks for all the replies.

I dunno where those people above got the ideas that NS bases are bullet proof.

They aren't. In fact, i find them pretty soft compared to a few others. Maybe Rossi are softer but i havent ridden Rossi so dont know. NS is certainly not ba quality but definitely not bomb proof.

If i were you, i'd be looking at Capita Black snowboard of Death, Burton Flight Attendant, Jones Mtn Twin, NS Raptor.

There seem to be a lot of Skunk Apes out there, you might get a better deal if you wait a bit. The NeverSummer Cobra is another board you might want to consider.

I've always had good luck with my Burtons. I wouldn't put them in the same category as NeverSummer or Unity for durability. However, Burton always seem to have a big selection at the end of the season, which means you can pick them up for 30-50% off and Burton's warranty service is second to none if you ever do have a problem.

Evo.com has some new blemished Skunk Apes for sale.

Hi Woodsbar, I also consider myself an intermediate rider (about 4 years) and I since I'm riding both the Jones Flagship and the NS Chairman I can offer you my personal opinion on these boards.

I think if you want to ride in the way you described, these two are top choice. But as others said, they (like every other brand boards in this "extreme" category) require quite a different riding style comparing to your previous board which is a lot softer.
They require much commitment because these are boards that give you more confidence the faster you go, while at the same time they won't forgive you for your mistakes. But you will feel like being on a train.

Personally I find the Chairman to be superior, also on the durability aspect (hit a lot of rocks this winter with it and base is still nice, while I had to repair the Flagship base after similar impacts). If you really want to stick with these two I would suggest the Flagship if you prefer high-speed stability, or the Chairman for high-speed handling and agility.

But, reading that you don't ride often in the winter, I would suggest you to choose an all-mountain board in order to be more versatile, so something less extreme and less stiff (tho stiffer than your current board) that can be anyway bombing/powder oriented (e.g. like the ripsaw or the snowtrooper, or the aviator.) so it's easier to adapt to unexpected conditions.

Sorry but I have no experience on the other boards named in this thread.
