Default Board damage insight

Got aware today of a strange irregularity on a new board, ridden 3 times.

The board has a stretch of abt 15 cm where there's a whiteish-transparent material between the black sidewall and edges, on both sides of the nose. On one side, on a stretch of abt 5 cm there's even a gap. I'm pretty sure this gap didn't exist when I got the board new, I would have had noticed...

The other parts of the edge don't show that whiteish material. Checked also the other 5 boards of that brand we have in the shed: with all those other boards, the black sidewall is in contact with the edge, no white material inbetween.

Never had such an issue. Curious to learn what it is, why, what's the effect, minor, major, cosmetic or real issue (this delam thing?), ignore n ride it, repaire it or just send it back?

Hey Nen's! That's a real bummer! Obviously I do not have the experience to speak to the apparent difference in sidewall construction you mentioned. However that separation looks pretty significant! It also looks like it might be pretty deep. If you've got a toothpick, piece of paper or something to slide in between and see if you can gauge how far in it goes?

Looking at that pic, my concern would be it could allow all sorts of moisture to wick it's way in and ruin the core! If it were mine,..? I'd insist on a warranty return/replacement!

I would send in pic's for warranty, let them know you have lots of their boards and you have a trip coming up soon... I would not ride or repair it until I got the answer from them. It looks like a factory issue, moisture will get in there and damage the board further. That does not look like an impact damage point either. ..

That board had no impact (if so, I would mention it. So far, I've caused damage to boards by ripping edges hitting rocks riding BC; but how I could cause such a gap is out of my imagination. If it's possible, I'd be highly interested how, I of course wouldn't claim warranty then). I've ridden her soleyly on groomers, just normal riding, carving, moguls, straight outruns. No BC yet with her (been waiting for a binding part for the Flags binding; had mainly ridden the other boards this season) no jumps, no impacts.

But I've been trying some presses today when waiting for others, just to check, if I now manage to cos on the old Flag, I couldn't. Dunno, maybe 10 times tail, nose maybe 2 times ... I still suck at shifting weight to the nose so I wasn't a real nose press anyway, just a slight shift of weight. The board is thought for 130-180lb. I'm 120lb. I doupt that I can stress the board at all, even if I'd knew how to nose press but maybe already this low pressure led a preexisting weakness to become visible?

OTOH, I haven't looked at the board in the morning. Could well be that the gap was already there from last time I did ride her (moisture getting in n freezing?). No idea.

Toothpick test shows that the gap doesn't seem deep, after few mm I hit something hard, maybe part of the edgemetal? Could the white-ish material just be some extra glue? Only cosmetic? Dang, I really lack knowledge on board build...

It looks like the epoxy just isn't holding. I would assume it's a manufacture defect. If you're worried about it, contact them about warranty. I had a Santa Cruz that did the same thing. They wouldn't warranty the board, but the shop that I bought it from epoxy'd it and it held for some time, but eventually started to separate again. I didn't feel like having it epoxy'd again so I rode it as is. I ended up riding the board until it eventually broke, but over that time, the epoxy separation never got any worse.

Is your board made by Nidecker? I had what looks like a pretty similar issue with a Slash board that is 2 years old. Sent this photo in and got a personal response from Gigi who forwarded my issue to Nidecker warranty and they hooked me up. The edge/top sheet separation was about 7 cm's long

If you've only ridden it 3 times it should definitely be replaced.

IIRC, the '15 Jones are made by GST.

You've hit the mother load. Get a warranty replacement, sell this one for $250. Rinse, repeat, get rich. Everybody's doing it!
