Well I want to get a camcorder for snowboarding and general use. It has to be waterproof-why not?- I don't want it to be to bulky since i want to be holding it and like doing tricks while holding it....

Price range: 200-400 usd

I was thinking about sanyo xacti opinions?

Depends on how much money you want to spend and what quality video you want. The best bang for your buck will be the Olympus Stylus 6000 waterproof digital camera.

It is a digital picture camera, but also does video. It is fully water-proof and built to handle shocks. The ultra compact size will make it easy to hold while doing tricks, and easy to stick into a pocket when you're done filming.

The bad? It is horrible in low light and has limited zoom.

I bought a Flip Mino HD cam specifically for boarding...terrible choice. After about 10min it got too cold to operate. I have a lot of "first lift of the day" videos and thats about it.

Promptly returned the cam.

Its a shame because the quality was actually pretty good when it worked.

I'm lookin too...at first I was thinking of going with a high end Cannon, but then figured I didn't want to have something that expensive in the snow etc. etc. and prob would end up never taking it. So i think the cheaper sub $200 kind would be better...also are easier to edit since they're not AVCHD but Mpeg4. The creative Vado has a wide angle lense and is pretty well reviewed, but I had come around to the Kodak Zi8 based on reviews....it has a 60fps mode which I think would be sick for slow mo editing. However, I have no idea what will operate in the cold....no one really ever mentions that in reviews.

here i posted this answer to a similar thread a while back, heres the post.:

I use the olympus stylus 850 sw the thing is sick , its a handheld camera/camcorder its freeze proof, waterproof , you can drop it from 10 ft wont break, i take it everywhere wakeboarding in the summer, underwater vids and pics, snowboarding, heres a youtube review on it YouTube - Olympus Stylus 7.1MP Waterproof Digital Camera with... they got new ones now like the 1030sw and 1050sw i think you can just go further under water like 25 feet compaired to my 10 ft. you could find good deals i got mine on ebay for $200 when it was the newest one out.

its perfect for boarding, this camera is the shit, you wont be disappointed.

ya, the only prob with that one though is it's more of a picture cam first and a camcorder second, the quality isn't all that great...it's similar to a Sony Cybercam I "filmed" with the past 2 years, it was ok but when you see the smaller HD cam's, esp now that You Tube and Vimeo support HD, they're 100 times better looking.
