First day out and I get a top sheet scuff from some idiot in the lift lines. And the punk 16yo kids seem to think it's ok to keep running into everyones boards....
Finding myself having no patience for people that run into you shit, but what can you do? I chicken hawk my board and try to move it before and fucks hit it but it's a pretty difficult task.
I'm gonna make backcountry more of a priority this year with hopes to avoid some idiots.
Guessing this is part of the bullshit that goes down during an opening weekend. Hope the punk kids don't come back out next weekend
That sucks...but it IS part of snowboarding. Be thankful you don't get the eejit ski race kids who think it's ok to stab your equipment with their ski poles while they bad mouth snowboarding.
Ya know, if someone just learning runs into my stuff, I'm not going to get all bent out of shape. However, someone trying to jack my stuff up that I paid good money for? Oh no. As far as I'm concerned, that's grounds for an ass whuppin'!
Last year at Gore some 40 (Just a guess on his age...) year old guy dressed in all neon green came charging down the slope at about 50 mph straight into the lift line and knocked down about 8 people. He tried to blame a kid for "pushing" him into the line. He was a complete dumbass to even be going that fast near a lift.
He also rode over my board after knocking them over. Put a nice scratch in it....
People run into your board all the time. Not really a big deal. A scratch on the top sheet won't hurt anything. However, when I get a kid that keeps bumping me from behind I just turn around and stare at them with a WTFMATE face. Generally that gets the point across.
nope, not enough. some people are too stupid, violence works on the ignorant. Idiocy comes with a physical pricetag. Atleast if it doesnt they know itll cost them next time around.
One time I was in the lift line there was this socially inept middle age Chinese man who kept hitting my board with his ski pole on purpose. He thought it was funny and I kept telling him to "fucking knock it off" I put up with it about twice, on the third time I pushed him down (meant to punch him) and he nearly smoked his little son who was right behind him. He freaked out and started yelling at me in Cantonese. The lifties got involved but I had witnesses around me who confirmed that the guy instigated it for no real reason.
Other than incidents like that getting your board knocked in the lift line is just the norm. People should be more careful but you are just riding a snowboard, not a Mercedes.
i only really care if someone seems to be doin it on purpose.. like the someone said earier thats grounds for an ASS WHOOPIN i've done it on accident myself so i dont really sweat it if someone does it by mistake. on a side note tho.. i have too much fun snowboarding to even care about just little shit like that anyway
It's not that big of a deal, but it's still pretty annoying. I let it go when it's a one-time accident. If the same person keeps doing it, acciental or not, I'll give them a look or say something about paying attention or knocking it off.
This did bother me with my 09 Burton Custom, as the top sheet scratches so easily. Now I have my NS SL - I don't care as the top sheet is very robust compared to the Custom. Why doesn't every company do this? :dunno:
Yes like others have said, if it's a noob and not intentional that's one thing, but if it's some punk kid doing it on purpose, he will be face first in the snow before he knew WTF just happened.
Its not top sheet stuff that bugs me..its when they bang into my damn edge that it pisses me off...
Even NS boards arent immune to this i looked at my SL-R a week or two ago and realized i have like 4 or 5 short short gashes on the topsheet/edge where people gashed me..annoying as hell...i had to cut some of the bits off with a razor blade so they dont pull up more this season...
Usually i dont mind if someone accidentally does it trying to move forward in line..they usually say sorry and we continue onto the lift...its the idiots who bounce around in lift lines like its a fucking skate park to do standing presses and crap with 1 foot in that annoy me...
Atleast most lifties stop people from doing this now, and also keep people from slapping their boards repeatedly...once or twice to get a ton of snow off is fine if its a pow day...but stop slapping your board for no reason its annoying as shit. I heard a lifty tellin a kid to stop and why..apparently its because people who wear ear implants to hear have the sound magnified a ton by the device and it can damage their ear...
Eh, for me the slapping of the board was a big annoyance more than anything. You get kinda jumpy as a lifty seeing as how you kinda have peoples lives in your hands (mostly stupid peoples lives, but still). So for me, if I was in "the zone" and someone slapped their board, I would just kinda freak that something had just gone wrong. Same with people yelling to other people in liftlines. I don't hear the words, I just here someone yelling, making me think someone is hanging off a chair and about to fall to their death if I don't do something about it in the next 5 seconds...
When someone runs over my board and clearly looks like they have the control and common sense not to I politely say "Hey, stop fucking running into my board"
But for the most part I am too chill and rockin tunes to even give a shit unless it's continuous and deliberate
I don't have a problem with someone hitting my board 1 time 2times im saying something "STOP HITTING MY FUCKING BOARD"I have had someone hit my shit did not say sorry or did not even act like he did anything so I got pissed off and I KARATE chopped his board with my board and said"STOP HITTING MY FUCKING BOARD"then I was the DICK but he stayed away from my shit but I dinged my edge...P.S sorry if it was one of you guys I did fell like a dick after I calmed down
It's not like they're getting to the lift any faster by being close enough to read my shirt tag. People need to relax a little. We're all going to the same place and it's going to take the same time. People have asked me why I have so many stickers on my board, first I tell them I'm sponsored (which I'm not), then I tell them its to cover the scratches a-holes like you put on my board from the lift line.
Like you guys have said, it's not that bad if it is accidental and they apologize for it, but last year the first time I had my Supermodel X out some little park rat kept bumping into it, seemingly on purpose, and and took a chunk out of the topsheet about an inch wide, BEFORE I HAD EVER RIDDEN IT. That guy really rattled my cage.
Its like dinging someones car door when your getting out of your car...everyones screwed up and done it once or twice in their life..its the asshats that have no regard and do it every time that sucks.
This is one of those things that can really piss a person off. At Stevens Pass, there are a couple lifts where some skier tries to repeatedly jam their pole-tip thru my deck. I think this pisses me off more than an occasional bump or tap from the back. Boards are expendable, and so are some asshole people.
It's a fucking snowboard who cares, is it going to damage the fucking thing if it has a bunch of surface scuffs? NO it's not. People need to sack up and get over the fucking superficial bull shit it's not like it's a 71 hemicuda and some douche bag ran a shopping cart into it at wal mart.
So if someone takes a chunk out of your brand new board that you just paid several hundred dollars for, you would be perfectly ok with it? I guess we have a different level of pride for what we've worked for.... If I mess up my board, that's one thing, but if some idiot takes a chunk out of my board, I'm going to be pissed..
I guess it depends on the gravity of the damage, if it's just a scuff... Sure it sucks and I'll get over it. But if someone gouges/takes a chunk off your edge, then I'll get pissed. Edge hits are what I hate most... it means I need to get my edges resharpened/bevelled correctly.
Ya got a bit of a scuff after my first ever run with The Jam by some douche in the lift lines.... I've had to tell 3 people to stop running into my board after this scuff happened... I just give people a stern look if they crack my board once, but if a second hit happens I say something now. Now that I have a high end board I find myself getting even more pissed off when someone hits my stuff. Previous board was a lot cheaper and it didn't cut me so deep to see someone run into it ( =
