critique my new setup

Me: 6'3" , 210lb , 13-14 size boot.

Recently picked up a Burton Custom Wide (172) w/ Cartel Binding. Got a decent deal on things, $550 for the setup.

This is my first new setup and am excited to get out and give it try. One thing on my mind is if I got the length of the board correct. My co-worker, who has been boarding and instructing for some time, had recommended that I get the 172 so that my skills won't out "grow" the board. From what I have read on forums, it seems that most folks would put me more into the 167. I pretty much do all mountain, but would like to do a little park riding in the future. Is the 172 the board for me?

172 in the park??? You might have the longest board there but anythings possible. 172 is too long for park.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Seems like the longest boards would be in the 159-161 length. Guess I can use my old board to just mess around with.

I guess that is another question...with the longer board, am i getting everything out of this board that I can. Or would a shorter board allow me to utilize the Custom better?

the board you have will be stable at speed and sluggish at all other times.

if you are gonna ride park, you'll need to be super aggressive. that set up sounds good for frsh powder days on the steeps and deeps.

for me, doing silly tricky stuff, i have a 159; and when the snow gods smile i have a 166.... i am not much lighter or shorter than you.

you will need to adjust to your set up, but you'll be fine (and exhausted! :D)

then again, how much fresh stuff am i actually going to be able to ride...

A 172 will make a Titan out of you! The board will be a missile on the runs so hang on and enjoy the ride! I'm actually jealous!!!

Don't worry about it being to long, unless you are a veteran park rider, it wont hold you back an extreme amount, especially with your dimensions, I'm 6'0 and 220lbs and I ride a 168, my transition into the park has been smooth no less, it will just feel that much better if I ever go to a smaller board.

thanks for the boosts of confidence. I think i'll just give it a go and hope that it isn't too much board to handle

That board is going to be SO SICK in deep powder  I'm 5'11" and usually about 180lbs and my Burton Bullet 164 just feels awkwardly large on anything but the deep powder. You are a bit larger of a guy so it won't be as bad for you but damn! That's a big board.
