a friend, who has like 7 days in his pocket on Nitro prime (softish flat deck) got a custom x for this season, will be interesting He tried Ride Highlife for a few runs, liked it, so was confident and went all in
The point I was making is that you compared it to a car with a tricky gear box vs a corolla. What a gross exhageration. On both ends.
First, a Custom camber is a great board. Not all that different from a DOA which everyone loves. Just no flat and rocker zones, but had pretty good tech. Hardly a Corolla. Actually a damn good all mountai freestyle board.
Then you have a Custom X. Traditional camber, and yes comes with loaded bells and whistles, hardly some stiff beast that only an expert or conseur could appreciate. I would stick a Dupraz or Flight attendant, two hyped boards on this site as equally challenging boards, yet reading here, you would think the Custom X needs certifications to read.
It's a light, tech loaded cambered board, on the stiff side. Definitely not a beginner board, but hardly a board to question your ability over if you know how to ride
Hey, car experts, did you know, that ir's almost 2016 and porsches arr as easy to drive as anything else, it's nothing like 964 or older 911's, which were brutal and tricky, even 993, which is more than 20 yo, is ok.
Started 20 years ago.. There weren't any beginner boards, and yeah i fell a few times, bu i doubt rocker would've avoided that.
Had a 10 year hiatus from boarding and got back when rocker was all the rage. Remember my first day on the hill: "why does this feel so dead? Have i gotten too old or is there another reason this board doesn't pop like in the good old days?!?"
Regarding the suitability argument, I'm sure I'd have tons of more fun on a custom x than a rocker noodle. Also, if you go on a bigger hill at some point you will have either developed bad habits with the rocker and will eat shit or you grow out of it's intended purposes (learn how to ride a big mountain, noodle not enough) and need a better board after a day.
The analogy is terrible because all it does is question his ability to ride. Second, these aren't cars. Or close to it. The vast difference between that Porsche and a corolla pails in comparison between the difference of a Custom camber and custom X. Two days of riding, and you won't remember the difference.
You're the one that seems to be complicating things?????
I still own my Custom, and while I no longer ride it anymore due to ownin too many other newer boards, I gaureentee I'd have fun on it if I toe it!!!!!
I've been thinking about addin a YES Basic to my quiver, because when I rode one for shits and giggles, you couldn't wipe the grin off my face cause it was that much fun!!!!!
There's a reason why they sell so many Corrollas, just like there's a reason why they've sold so many Customs!!!!! They simply just work!!!!!
The custom x will push you as a rider and make you better for sure. If you have strong legs the custom x is fun. I have ridden both, and own an X, and prefer the X in everything but snow deeper than about 4 inches. The reg custom is more of a do it all board, and more easy riding than the X for sure.
I see it like this, Custom X is just a board, nothing scary about it. Anyone can ride it, anyone can learn on it. But I agree with Neni, does he really need this kind of board? Usually the case is that if you really don't know what you want to ride there are better boards out there for you than a Custom X. Can he rip on it? sure, but IMO there are better boards out there for him.
English isn't my native language, so forgive me if I gave any grammar mistake.
I am totally not sure could I tame it or not since I have never used any hi-grade board over burton clash.
But when I hold this stick in my hand, even newbie like me can recognize something difference in it.
So just let realistic give me a lesson. The first ride in this must be interesting. (in every sense)
Sort of. The amount of camber and the stiffness of the board relate to how much pressure there is keeping the contact points engaged in the snow, and how much snap back the board is going to have for when you generate pop. Others could explain better I'm sure, but think of it like the amount of spring the board has, both out of turns and off ollies.
Hah I don't have a database man, was just curious as I'm thinking of getting one as well for carving. But I already have a Flight Attendant which is a very good carving board as it is. My Flight Attendant has approx 10mm camber floor to bottom, so the 15mm on the Custom X does sound like a lot, which is good. Tempting...

Malavita 2015 M. average good.
This is a nice cushion but you do need a screw driver when you go to mountain.
Maybe this is EST's fault. Just remember to bring you screw driver.
I have bough a used 164 X maybe the first year of est because the channel are not the same as the other burton boards i had. This board make some kind of whinning at high speed its a true beast i loved it but after a couple ride went to the car and switched to my restricted FV felt more confident for the bigger tree run. Is it me or the base really make a whinning sound?
