Duck down is a natural fiber. Thermacore is a synthetic. In general down is warmer and more lightweight, but not nearly as waterproof.

I'd be curious to hear someone's opinion of fully taped vs critically/non-taped seams.

I just bought a Special Blend jacket from last year with 15k/10k, fully taped seams, and a ton of features on the cheap from dogfunk and a pair of pants from backcountryoutlet.com... They may or may not be the same company but they use the same system and address for RMA's, orders, etc.
