Looking for a nice freestyle board for snowdome practice

Hi all,

Reasonably new rider looking for a bit of advice regarding a second deck to help me improve before next year’s trip.

Currently have 7 days mountain riding under my belt and somewhere in the region of 80 hours in a snowdome. I ride a 2014-2015 yes the greats in 158, which is a really great board, however I feel it’s a little stiff for the next 11 months of practice indoors and doesn’t have the room to ‘stretch it’s legs’ properly.

Things I want to be able to do for my next trip are:

* Ride switch confidently

* Some buttering / 180’s / other small freestyle stuff

* Jump and land confidently (pretty small jump at my snowdome – can maybe get 4 or 5 feet of air max) maybe 180 / 360 if I’m feeling brave enough.

* Some rail stuff. I’m pretty risk averse generally and for some reason I find these pretty intimidating, but I’m keen to try and give everything a go this year.

After doing a fair bit of reading around, I’m pretty tempted by the Rome Gang Plank. Seems to have a lot of flex for buttering, easy turn initiation, enough stiffness for confident landings and can hold a carve. It’s true twin for switch riding. Flat between the bindings and pretty catch free due to the slightly elevated contact points. Decent enough pop apparently.

Am I overlooking anything here or does this seem like a pretty decent selection? I’ve not really seen a bad review of the 2016 version. Anyone got any other suggestions they could make or point out something I'm overlooking?

Finally if the deck choice is good, my current bindings are burton missions - are they a reasonable matchup with the Gang Plank?

I go to Tamworth Snowdome.

For sure it's a real comedown after you've had the real thing, but I'm feeling pretty inspired to get in there and work on as much as I'm able in the confined space. I have so much I can improve on indoors.

Glad to know I'm looking in the right area as far as the board is concerned.

Is anyone able to answer a quick question for me?

I'm literally about to order the Gang Plank and am having the usual last minute internal conflicts.

Has anyone ridden a Yes Greats (14/15) and a Gank Plank 2016 and able to offer up an idea of their comparable flex? I'm presuming the gang plank is significantly softer than the greats, but I did hear someone recently say if they owned a Greats, they'd be tempted to move even further in flex rating to something like a Capita Horrorscope.

My only apprehension about the Horrorscope really is the lack of stability in landings by comparison, and the fact that the gang plank is supposed to have a lot more pop. The gang plank seems to be the superior board, but if it's similar in flex to the Greats it may not be worth it.

Anyone who has ridden theseboards and can give some insight would be really appreciated.

I'd recommend the Rome artifact rocker for an improving rider, learning freestyle in the dome.

The gang plank is an intermediate park riders snowboard that can be taken anywhere on the mountain.

Either way....demo, rent and take punts on snowboards. It's all good.

I'm open to considering both the Artifact and the Horrorscope. The last thing I want to do is order the Gang Plank and find it's feel isn't all too dissimilar to the Greats which I feel is a bit too stiff a board for the snowdome and isn't a platform for being adventurous with new moves.

I also own a Greats and will likely get something a softer for dome use when I finish my season. I wouldn't worry about stability of landings in a dome, the jumps aren't big enough. I would choose something that is really easy to butter and jib. Then when you go away on holiday you don't feel like you need to bring both boards, with a gangplank you could take that away on holiday and still ride the whole mountain.

So here's what happened in the end. I settled on a Horrorscope, but in the end, honestly just couldn't get used to how hideous that thing was. Don't get me wrong, I would take the perfect board for me whatever the design, but when there's a couple of boards that are basically identical in terms of meeting my requirements, I settled on the Artifact Rocker.

but...

Then I actually bought a Lib tech Box Scratcher. I found one in a 157 (I'm 220lbs) and after doing a lot of reading felt like it was a good fit. Good Wood winner (if you believe it's actually worth anything), not a bad review anywhere for the board, nice flex, magnatraction which I loved on my old Rossi Magtek. My gut was telling me to go Lib Tech and I couldn't find a reason not to after reading around a bit.

Now just have to wait a week for it to arrive...
